From His Wife to His Uncle's Wife novel Chapter 326

They missed each other by just ten minutes. If they’d arrived a little sooner, maybe they would’ve bumped into each other.

“Eleanor, guess what? I saw him again at the class reunion,” Yolanda said, her voice soft.

Eleanor stopped mid-bite. “Wait, you mean your ex? The one who just vanished on you?”

Yolanda nodded, sniffling a little. “Yeah, that one. He’s getting married. Good for him, I guess. He used to hustle every day, working any job he could find, but now he looks like he’s doing pretty well. Honestly, I don’t feel like I missed out.”

Eleanor studied her friend. “But… are you okay? Does it still hurt?”

Yolanda wiped her nose and shrugged. “I mean, when I first heard he was getting married, it stung. I won’t lie. But I’m married now too, so there’s nothing really left to be sad about.”

Life keeps moving. The people you miss out on, even if you meet them again, are still the wrong people for you.

Eleanor’s heart squeezed for her. She gave Yolanda’s hand a gentle squeeze. “It’s alright. Mr. Sidler is a pretty decent guy, honestly.”

Yolanda just kept quiet. She had her doubts. That man had left her covered in bruises, then had the nerve to show up at her door demanding marriage. She really couldn’t see what was so great about him.

Three days passed without a single word from the Clarkson family.

Peter Clarkson finally lost his patience. “Jessie, have you talked to Katie yet?”

Jessie’s face tightened. “Katie’s been saying she’s busy. She hasn’t had time.”

Peter let out a frustrated breath. Looked like he’d have to go to Clarkson Corporation himself.

At lunchtime, Eleanor was on her way to the cafeteria when she noticed Peter’s car in the parking lot. She was surprised. What was he doing here?

Peter sat alone in the reception area, watching people leave for lunch, but there was still no sign of Max.

He waited until three in the afternoon before Max’s assistant finally led him to the office.

Max let out a low laugh, his eyes full of open mockery. “Too far?”

“Tell me, what do I owe you, exactly? You’re my wife’s ex-husband. You cheated on her, treated her like nothing for years, made her miserable.”

“And your new wife? She’s tried to hurt Eleanor more than once. Why should I go easy on you?”

Max’s smile was sharp. “Don’t worry, it’s not just you. Your wife’s not getting a pass either. The two of you are a package deal, aren’t you?”

Peter’s eyes narrowed. “Max, there has to be some kind of mistake.”

“Jessie… why would she do anything to Eleanor?”

Max shook his head, unimpressed. “See? You can’t run a business, and you can’t handle your marriage, either.”

“You really think your wife is some innocent little angel? Maybe you should go ask her what she’s been up to.”
