From His Wife to His Uncle's Wife novel Chapter 327

The first time Max met Eleanor was at a business summit. She walked up to the stage to give her presentation, looking a little nervous but with this spark in her eyes that made it impossible for Max to look anywhere else. He watched her the whole time, caught off guard by just how drawn in he was.

After her talk ended, Max tracked down the organizers and asked for her name. Eleanor. It stuck with him. For as long as he could remember, Max had always kept his distance from women, always in control. But this time was different. He felt something new... and he wanted to know her, but not by digging into her life behind her back. That just wasn’t his style.

The next time he saw her, she was standing beside Peter Clarkson. She looked nothing like the confident woman he’d seen on stage. Instead, she was smiling so sweetly, her eyes reflecting only Peter, like he was the center of her world.

Hunter caught Max staring and nudged him with a grin. “What’s got your attention?”

Max just shrugged, trying to sound casual. “Nothing.”

Hunter gave him a look. “You know who that is, right? Peter Clarkson. Grandpa’s illegitimate son’s kid. That’s definitely his name.”

It hit Max then. Eleanor was Peter’s girlfriend, which technically made her his nephew’s girlfriend.

The third time Max saw her was at their wedding. It also happened to be the day he was leaving the country. His car ended up behind the wedding convoy, and he watched Eleanor step out of the car in her white dress, walking into the hotel with Peter by her side. He kept watching until his driver reminded him about his flight. Only then did Max snap out of it and tell him to head to the airport.

In his memory, Eleanor was always so bright. She had this sweet, beautiful smile and eyes that seemed to laugh even when she wasn’t saying a word.

A year later, Max came back home for the holidays. By chance, he ran into Eleanor again at the hospital. She was lying in bed, her face pale, a tiny baby sleeping beside her. There was no sign of her husband, just a nanny quietly tidying up.

It had only been a year, but the vibrant girl he remembered was gone.

Peter threw a thick folder right at her. “Take a look for yourself.”

“Juliana used to be your family’s nanny. Are you really going to stand there and say you didn’t tell her to go after Eleanor? What did you promise her to make her hurt her own daughter?”

“Jessie Goff, you’ve completely ruined Horizon Collective.”

Jessie sank into the nearest chair, tears streaming down her face. “Peter, how can you blame me? This is all Eleanor’s fault.”

Peter turned away from her, regret written all over his face. He had never felt so sorry for anything in his life. “If it weren’t for you, the Goff family wouldn’t be in trouble. I wouldn’t be in this mess. This company was my father’s and Grady’s legacy…”
