“Eleanor, Max is always so busy with work. He might not be able to look after you all the time. Have you thought about moving back to the Estate for a while?”
“Don’t worry, your dad and I would never try to control you. We just want someone around in case you’re not feeling well.”
Eleanor could tell her mother-in-law meant well, but she just wasn’t ready to move in with Max’s parents. Thankfully, Max stepped in before she had to say anything.
“Mom, stop making a fuss. I won’t be out late for work anymore, promise.”
“We just got married. There’s no way we’re living with you guys. We need some time alone, just the two of us.”
“You think I’m like Hunter? Only people without a partner move back home,” Max teased.
Hunter and Katie looked at each other, both a little speechless. Max really didn’t hold back.
That night, Eleanor stayed over at the Clarkson Estate. She still couldn’t believe it. She was going to be a mom. And Max, the guy she’d liked for so long, actually liked her back. It all felt like a dream.
“You’re still awake?” Max came out of the bathroom, steam curling behind him. His robe hung loosely around his waist.
Even though they’d already been together, Eleanor still blushed when she saw his muscles.
“I’m going to sleep now,” she mumbled, rolling over to face the other way.
Max just laughed softly, then wrapped his arms around her and pulled her close.
“Getting shy, babe?”
He kissed her gently on her shoulder blade, sending a shiver straight to her heart.
“Don’t…” Her voice shook a little, the word barely a whisper.
She really was a little scared.
“Relax, I won’t push you. But if you really like me, shouldn’t you be facing me when you sleep?”
Eleanor pouted and covered her ears. “Stop talking so much.”
Max’s laugh rumbled in his chest. “Okay, no more talking.”
Tonight, he felt even happier than the day they got married.
A marriage alliance was still better than bankruptcy.
Just then, Adam walked in. “Dad, Kennedy, I’ll do it. I’ll marry her.”
For Jessie, for their family, he would do whatever it took.
Meanwhile, Jessie tossed and turned through the night, dreaming she was running from a hungry wolf.
She woke up gasping, heart pounding.
Her stomach twisted, and she ran to the bathroom to throw up.
She remembered the pregnancy test hidden away at home. Her hands shook as she tore open the package.
When that second faint line appeared, Jessie knew she finally had something to hold onto.
She grabbed her phone and sent a message.
Peter, please don’t be mad at me anymore. I think I’m pregnant! [image.jpg]
