Chapter 13 Oak And Oath

“What’s wrong?” Damon asked, and I couldn’t help but groan.

“Fuck. It happened when I was young, lonely, and desperate for my family to love me. They had asked me to prick my finger and let my blood drop onto an ancient oak tree. It was a blood covenant.”

“What was it about?” he asked in a deadly voice.

“The Gath bound me to the Lockwoods. If I ever disobey direct orders from them or tried to leave them without their permission, the magic would turn my own blood against me. I wouldn’t die, but I would become deathly ill, coughing up blood and feeling like my lungs were filled with glass for a week.”

“Why would they even do that?”

“Im not surprised, they would do anything to make sure they have control over me.”

“Do you need me to call in the best healers to find a solution to it?”

“No, don’t worry. They want me to go and meet them, and that’s what I’ll do.”

‘Are you sure?”

‘Yes, I am.”

looked at the phone again; they wanted me to come to the mansion. I would go there, but I would not give in to whatever they had planned.

The next day, I walked into the Lockwood living room. The air felt thick and tense. My father was sitting in his large leather chair, and my brothers stood behind him like the bodyguards that they were.

On the coffee table was a scroll, and I wondered what was written on it.

‘You sure took your precious time,” Antoine said, adjusting his glasses, his eyes cold. “We know you’ve been wandering around the -ycan King, feeling important and stuff. It’s time to come back to your reality. Without us, you’re nothing.”

‘I don’t have a home with you anymore; you made sure of that. What else do you want from me?”

My father slammed his fist on the arm of his chair. “You have a covenant. Your blood belongs to us. You need to transfer your grandmother’s shares to your sister. The Lycan King is coming to take over, and we need to present a united and powerful front. An ordinary person like you shouldn’t have a weight like that in our company.”

“Grandmother gave those shares to me because she knew this was the same thing that was going to happen. I’m not handing anything over to you because you want to look united for the King. That’s not my business anymore.”

“Careful, Eloise. If we invoke the oath, you’ll be coughing up your lungs by dinner time. Is a bit of gold worth that much pain?”

I felt a chill go down my spine, but I didn’t back down. “Try me.”

Suddenly, Summer walked into the room, wearing a dress that looked way too expensive, and she had a wide fake smile on her face. She looked like she had been celebrating.

“Eloise, how’re you?” Summer asked in the most fake voice, and I didn’t give her the satisfaction of replying.

“Can you drop the fucking act, Summer? You don’t like me, I know that. We all know that. Stop trying to be nice. Being fake doesn’t look good on you at all,” she gasped, and I smiled.

“Dont talk to your sister like that, can’t you see that she’s trying to be nice to you?” Julian said, and I just scoffed.

“Whatever.”

“Well, you guys need to stop fighting.” Summer chirped, she sat down, and crossed her legs. “I have a much better idea. We don’t need to force her to sign today; we need her for something else.”

She looked at me with eyes that were glinting with pure hatred and greed.

‘We know that the Luna Trials are around the corner,” she said.

‘But that is not needed anymore since the Lycan King is taking over,” Antoine said with a confused expression.

‘Well, the girls were saying it’s still going to happen. The Lycan King needs a Queen after all, don’t you think?” Summer asked, and hey all nodded.

Did Damon approve of doing this? I wondered but didn’t say anything out loud.

So since the Luna Trials are around the corner, every noble family has to send their daughters to compete.”
