Guess what is happening again? Yes, another family meeting that Aunt Laura dragged me to, again. At this point, I might have to start declining Aunt Laura.

The long dining table felt colder than usual. Servants stood stiffly by the wall while my mother and father sat on one side of the table. Summer sat beside her mother, her posture perfect as usual, her expression gentle and obedient. You’d actually think she can’t hurt a fly.

At the head of the table, say, “Grandfather, he looked better than the last time I saw him.” He looked older. Damon must have done a number on him. He was sitting in a wheelchair now, instead of the grand chair he sat in the last time I was here. His eyes moved sharply from everyone until he landed on me.

“Sit.” He ordered.

I calmly took the empty chair across from him; my movements were relaxed, almost lazy. But inside, I knew exactly what this meeting was about. His voice still carried the same authority as always.

“A lot has happened, and your father tells me that you don’t listen to him. Ignoring your elders and acting like you no longer belong to this house.”

His tone hardened. “And that you pick an outsider over your own blood. This isn’t news as you sat down and watched your husband break my legs.” I rested my hand on my chin, making sure my expression was unreadable.

“Interesting,” I said softly. “Because from what I remember, it was this family that threw me out.”

The temperature in the room dropped, and my father’s tone darkened sharply. “Watch your tone.”

I’m surprised he still talks to me the way he does after Damon made an example out of my grandfather. I’m guessing he has a death wish.

Grandfather raised his hand, silencing his son as his eyes remained fixed on me. “You should learn one or two things from Summer; she has always been respectful, she obeys her parents, and she represents this family properly.”

He gestured towards her, and I saw a smirk reserved only for me appear on her face.

“Unlike you,” he continued. Summer lowered her head as if she was embarrassed by the praise.

I almost laughed, seeing as they still didn’t know who they had in their house.

“Grandfather,” I said calmly. “Do you truly believe that Summer is innocent?”

Summer’s shoulders stiffened slightly, and my mother frowned.

“What are you implying?” Mother asked sharply.

I tilted my head.

“Should I start with when she took my fiancée away from me?” Silence crashed into the room.

Summer’s head snapped up immediately.

“Thats not true.” She cried.

“Or the time she paid a group of men to rape me, beat me and then record everything.” Father slammed his hand on the table.

But I pulled my phone out, I wanted to check my grandfather’s reaction to the things Summer did. I wanted to know whether he was being intentionally blind or didn’t know at all. Aunt Laura told me that her father was a disciplinarian and he didn’t tolerate

nonsense.

I tapped the screen, and a recording started playing. The voice that filled the room was obviously Summer’s, explaining how she intentionally took Edward away from me and the other evil things she had done.

Every word echoed in the hall, and by the time the recording finished, the room felt suffocating.

Mother looked like someone had slapped her, and Father’s face was pale. But the biggest reaction came from the grandfather. His finger slowly tightened around the arms of his wheelchair.

“Grandpa…that recording must be fake. Someone must have ed-”

“Enough.” His voice was low, but it sounded across the room.

Summer immediately fell silent.

The older man closed his eyes briefly; he looked exhausted.

“Leave me for a moment, he said quietly.

I stood up, gave a polite nod and walked toward the main door without another word. But as I stepped into the hallways, I noticed Summer standing in the corner. She quickly straightened when she saw me.

“Eloise,” she said softly. Her voice was gentle again, and I knew she had something planned. I made sure to stand where the camera would catch us both in case she decided to do something stupid.

“Worried?” I asked casually, leaning against the wall.

“I don’t know what you’re talking about.” I stepped closer, and my voice dropped.

“Relax, grandpa already heard the recording. If he wanted to punish you, he would have already.”

Her eyes suddenly flickered to the stairs, and a strange light appeared behind them. Before I could react, she grabbed my wrist tightly and screamed.

“Eloise.”

Her voice cracked as if she were about to cry.

“I know you hate me, but please forgive me, I never meant to hurt you!” The grip on my wrist tightened painfully.

I frowned. “What are you doing-”

But suddenly Summer stumbled toward the stairs and screamed.

“Ahhhh!”

Her body tilted dangerously toward the stairs, but I reacted fast, and my hand slipped out to catch the back of her collar before she fell. The two of us froze at the top of the staircase. I looked at her coldly.

“Trying to stage another accident?”

His lips trembled. “I don’t know what you mean.”

Before anything could happen, the study door opened behind us, and Grandpa wheeled out–his expression dark.
