ELOISE.

Summer looked nothing like herself anymore. Her hair was loose, her dress disordered, and whatever composure she had been holding on to was completely shattered the moment all those eyes fell on her. For a brief second, I almost pitied her. Almost. Then her gaze found mine, and the softness dissapsarsd. What replaced it was sharp, desperate, and filled with blame.
“Grandpa, it was her!” she cried, her voice breaking as she pointed straight at me. “Eloise planned this. She dragged me into this mess!”
The accusation echoed loudly, drawing even more attention. A few people turned to look at me immediately, expecting a reaction. But I didn’t give them one. I simply stood there, glass still in hand, calm and unmoved, like none of this had anything to do with me. That alone seemed to irritate her even more.
“I’ve been in the main hall the whole night,” I said evenly, my tone steady. “There are enough people here who can confirm that.”
Before anyone else could question it, a few women nearby nodded quickly. They had been chatting with me earlier, and now they spoke up without hesitation, confirming that I hadn’t left the banquet long enough to be involved in anything suspicious. Their voices weren’t loud, but they were firm–and in a setting like this, that mattered.
Summer froze.
For a second, she didn’t know how to respond.
Then her face twisted with anger.
“You’re lying!” she snapped, trying to get up, her movements unsteady. “You planned all of this-”
She didn’t get to finish.
Edward stepped forward and grabbed her arm, pulling her back before she could come any closer to me. His expression was no longer soft or conflicted. It had turned cold, almost disappointed.
“Enough,” he said
“Do you even hear yourself right now?”
That hit her harder than anything else.

She stared at him like she didn’t recognize him.
“Edward… you think I’m lying?” she asked, her voice small, almost broken.
He let go of her arm as it burned.
“I think you’ve gone too far,” he replied. “Whatever this is, you need to stop.”
Her face drained of color.

For someone like Summer, losing control in front of everyone was bad enough. But losing Edward’s support? That was worse. I watched her crumble in real time, her confidence falling apart piece by piece, until all that remained was panic.
Grandfather’s voice cut through the noise.
“What is the meaning of this?” he demanded, his tone heavy with anger.
No one dared to answer immediately.
The silence that followed was thick, uncomfortable, and suffocating. Everyone had their own guesses, their own suspicions, but no one wanted to say them out loud. Because no matter how they looked at it, one fact remained-
Summer had been found in that room.
With a man.
On a night like this.
She dropped to her knees suddenly, her hands trembling.
“I didn’t do anything,” she said, shaking her head repeatedly. “I don’t even know how I ended up there. Someone pushed me–someone set me up-”
Her voice cracked again, but this time, it sounded weaker.
Less convincing.
Grandfather didn’t look convinced at all.
His expression darkened, disappointment settling deep into his features. He had spent years believing in her image, defending her, trusting her. And now, in front of everyone, that image had collapsed in the worst possible way.
“Take her out of here,” he said finally, his voice cold.

Two servants stepped forward immediately.

Summer tried to resist at first, her eyes darting around desperately, as if she was still hoping someone would step in and defend her. No one did. Not her parents. Not Edward. Not
anyone.
As they pulled her past me, she glared.
Pure hatred.
“This isn’t over,” she whispered under her breath
I leaned slightly closer, just enough for her to hear me.
“You started this,” I replied quietly. “Now deal with it.”
Her body stiffened, but she didn’t get the chance to respond. The servants dragged her away, leaving behind a room full of uneasy silence and unanswered questions.
The party didn’t recover after that.
Even though the music resumed and the guests tried to act normal, the atmosphere had already been ruined. Conversations turned into whispers, and every glance carried curiosity or judgment. No one would forget what they had seen tonight.
Eventually, the guests began to leave.
One by one.
Until the grand hall was almost empty.
But the matter wasn’t over.
Not for the family.
Summer was brought back later, her earlier confidence completely gone. She stood in the center of the room, her head lowered, her hands clenched tightly at her sides. Without the crowd, the weight of the situation felt even heavier.
“Explain yourself,” Grandfather said.
His tone wasn’t loud this time.
But it was worse.
“I told you, I was set up,” she said quickly. “Someone planned this–I didn’t go there willingly.”

Her eyes flicked toward me again.
“It was her-”
“That’s enough,” Grandfather interrupted sharply.
He didn’t even look at me.

“There is no proof,” he continued. “And there are witnesses who saw Eloise in the hall.”
Summer’s lips trembled.
“But that doesn’t mean-”
“It means you have nothing to stand on,” he cut in.
Silence followed.
Heavy.
Final.
She opened her mouth again, then closed it.
For the first time, she realized something important.
She had no way out.
“Until you learn to control yourself,” Grandfather said slowly, “you will stay away from this house.”
Her head snapped up.
“What?”
“You will spend the next few days at the family chapel,” he continued. “No visitors. No distractions. You will reflect on your actions.”
Her face went pale.
That wasn’t just punishment.
That was isolation.
“Yes… Grandpa,” she said finally, her voice barely audible.
But the look in her eyes told a different story.
