SUMMER.
I’ve never liked feeling… invisible.

It’s a strange thing, really. Because if anyone had asked before, they would’ve said I was the exact opposite. I was always seen. Always noticed. Always the one people turned to, the one people talked about–whether they loved me or envied me.
Now?
Now I stand in a room, and somehow…I feel like background noise.
I leaned against the window, arms folded, watching the training grounds below. Wolves moved in formation, sharp and focused, their laughter drifting faintly through the air. It used to be me down there–right at the center, where everyone’s attention naturally gravitated.
Now, even when I show up, it feels like something is… off.
Like the spotlight shifted.
And I know exactly when it started.
Eloise.
Just thinking about her name made something twist inside my chest. Annoyance? No. It was deeper than that. Something sharper. Something uglier.
Eveh since she came back, everything has been different.
People don’t say it out loud, but I hear it anyway In the pauses. In the way conversations change when I walk clos. In the way some of them look at me like they’re comparing.
Comparin me to her.
My jaw tightened.
I hate that.
I hate her.
The door opened behind me, pulling me out of my thoughts.
“Summer.”

I didn’t turn immediately. I took a second–just enough to smooth out my expression- before I faced him.
“What is it?” I asked, softe than I felt.
He walked in, looking like he had something important to say. That alone made me straighten slightly.
“There’s an event coming up,” he said. “A big one. The Moon Maiden Selection.”
That caugh my attention.
Of course I knew what that was. Everyone did. It wasn’t just some random gathering–it was the event. The one where the most powerful, elegant, and desirable women in the packs were chosen and displayed like…well, like something to be admired and fought over.
Only the best got in.
Onl the best stood out.
My heartbeat picked up a little.
“And?” I asked, trying not to sound too eager.
“I want you in it,” he said simply. “It’s the perfect chance to rebuild your image.”
Rebuild.
So even he sees it too. He sees that my career is going down the drain, we haven’t been talking about it doesn’t mean it’s not actually happening and it made me more bitter. Fuck Eloise.
For a split second, something bitter rose in my throat, but I swallowed it down. Showing that kind of reaction wouldn’t help me.
Instead, I looked down, letting out a small breath like I was overwhelmed.
“You really think I can do it?” I asked.
Maxwell frowned slightly. “Of course you can.”
Good.
That’s exactly what I needed to hear.

“I’ll make sure you have everything,” he continued. “Training, styling, public exposure. This will put you back where you belong.”
Back where belong.
At the top.
A small smile formed on my lips, and this time, it wasn’t fake.
“Okay,” I said. “I’ll do it.”
But just as he turned to leave, something slipped out before I could stop it.
“Will Eloise be there too?”
Silence.
It was brief, but I caught it.
Maxwell paused, then glanced back at me. “She might be invited.”
Of course she might.
“She qualifies,” he added.
I let out a quiet hum, like it didn’t matter.
But it did. Goddess, it did.
“Don’t focus on her,” he said. “Focus on yourself
I nodded. “I will.”
But the moment he left and the door shut behind him, the smileon my face dropped completely.
Focus on myself?
How am I supposed to do that when she’s always… there?
Always in the way. Always being compared to me. Always somehowtaking what was supposed to be mine without even trying.
I turned back to the window, staring at my reflection this time.
I still looked perfect. Nothing had changed on the outside. So why did it feel like I was losing everything? My fingers curled slightly, I’m not losing anything, I just… got distracted. That’s

A stage. A spotlight. A chance to remind everyone exactly who I am, and if Eloise shows up? A slow smile crept onto my lips, sharper this time. Let her comeLet them all watch.
Because this time, I won’t sit back and pretend to be sweet while she quietly steals everything from me. This time, I’ll make sure there’s no confusion. No competition. If she steps into that arena with me… Then I’ll make sure she walks out of it knowing exactly where she stands.
And this time?
I won’t lose.
Because this was a battle. And i was about to step into the battlefield, ready as fuck.
