Chapter 37 Time To Choose The Queen
ELOISE.
I woke up to realise that it was already evening, I yawned and stretched. I can’t remember the last time I had a proper opportunity to rest. The bed in the maiden house wasn’t as comfortable as this, and this bed wasn’t as comfortable as the one I’ve been staying in with Damon. I couldn’t wait to get there tomorrow and have another quality night’s sleep.
There was a knock on my door, and I frowned. Who could it be? God help me, it better not be Summer, cause I would hit her or do more. I sighed and got off the bed, walking barefoot to the door to check. It was Lex, Dolly, and Natalie. A smile made its way to my lips as I opened the door.
“Hiiiiii…we brought popcorn,” Lex said with a bright smile.
“Movies,” Dolly added.
“And some Coke,” Natalie said finally, and I looked at them funny.
“Um…and what are we supposed to do with them?” I asked because I was genuinely confused.
“I don’t know, throw them away in the ocean as we watch them sink,” Dolly said, rolling her eyes. “Come on, we came to watch some movies and have a girls‘ time, silly.” Dolly pushed the door wide open, pushing me out of the way and making room for the other girls to come in.
“Ummm..”
“Theres no option, girl. We just came to have a great time.” Natalie said,
“Are you guys not supposed to be resting?” I asked them because I wasn’t even properly rested enough. “Cause I slept through the whole afternoon, and I still want more sleep,” I told them, and they laughed.
“It’s only normal, we have had a stressful week,” Lex said.
“Who do you think the King will choose, guys?” My heart skipped a beat the moment I heard Damom come up.
“I don’t know. To be honest, I’m a bit scared of him. I don’t want to be chosen by him.” Dolly said.
“Is it not normal for him to choose the winner?” Natalie asked.
“It is, but you know the King, he is ruthless to the call and will definitely not follow the rules. I think he would do anything he wants to do.” Lex replied.
“Yes, because have you heard of the things the man has done? Killed people like flies, took over territories, and turned the whole pack into enslaved people. I’m scared for my life, the man is hot as fuck, but he’s scary, with his sunshade.”
“You know, legend has it that he has never removed his sunshade in public, his eyes have never been seen,” Dolly said.
They all turned to look at me, and I raised my eyebrows at them. Why were they looking at me weirdly?
“Um…why are you guys looking at me like I committed the seven deadly sins?” I asked them, and they all rolled their eyes, except for Lex, who was just smiling.
“Why are we having the most important conversation right now, and you’re not saying anything? Plus, you’re the only one who has 1/3

seen this man up close, and you’ve touched him. Give us some deets, girl.” Natalie said.

I wasn’t a talkative person, so I wasn’t going to say anything if I indulged them. They were just trying to get some news, and I didn’t have any for them.
“Well, it’s quite unfortunate that I don’t know anything. Just forget it.” I told them, and Lex nodded, while Dolly and Natalie wanted more. But before I could even say anything, all our phones pinged, and we both took them to check the message.
I didn’t even remember that I had my phone on me, I thought, as I fished it out of the bag that I had thrown on the phone. It was a message from the Elder telling all of us to come down to the lobby. Apparently, there is something important that he needs to say
to us.
“Oh lard, I can’t wait to be done with this whole contest issue,” Dolly said and stood up.
We all stood up, walked out of my room, and went down to the lobby. Lex looped her arm in mine while Dolly and Natalie were busy whispering about something at the front.
“You did the right thing by not saying anything to them the other time; they are just looking for new gossip, and before you know it, everybody in the pack will know your business.” Lex whispered, and I nodded.
“Yeah, I know. Which is why I didn’t say anything.”
“Wise.”
She replied as we continued walking down to the lobby, but before we got there, I decided to say something.
“Thank you, Alexis, for the silent moments where you know I need company, but I don’t want to talk, and you just hang around in my room. Thanks for always being there, even though it’s subtle. I really appreciate it. I feel like you know me more than anybody I’ve ever met in my life, even my fucking parents. So thanks for that.” I told her.
“Anytime,” she said with a big smile.
Exactly, this was precisely the reason I liked her; she wasn’t talkative. My type of person, we could be friends, I wasn’t sure yet, but we would see.
By the time we arrived at the lobby, other girls were already sitting in groups and discussing. Lex and I found a place to sit around the back, and we all quieted when the Elder came in.
“Listen well,” the Elder started, his voice booming with authority. “The storm has passed, and the challenges are over. Tomorrow, at noon, the grand ceremony will be held. The Lycan King has watched everything, and tomorrow he will choose his queen.”
He said, and some people looked excited while the rest looked constipated. Then there was Summer, who looked like the whole world was against her in the corner she was in.
