Julian threw his glass against the fireplace, the shards spraying across the room like diamonds. My brother’s temper was always too close to the surface, his wolf constantly snapping at his self–control.

“That girl needs to be put down!” Julian roared, his eyes glowing dangerous yellow. “She’s forgotten what we are capable of in this family.”

Julian came home two months ago, talking and raging about how Eloise took all his money away by bluffing in a poker game, and he has not been the same since.

He has been throwing things, breaking things, and even shouting at our parents to leave him alone.

I lounged on the sofa, filling my nails and enjoying the show. Eloise had been acting like she was untouchable ever since she started relating with the Lycan King. It was honestly disgusting that she abandoned her family to go and seek shelter under a man, someone who would use her as a rag and then discard her. Well, I’ll be here for the drama when she comes begging after the Lycan King has used and dumped her.

“Shouting won’t fix it, Julian,” Antoine said, leaning against the mahogany desk. He looked towards our father, who was staring out the window at the dark forest. “Eloise has gone completely nuts. There’s only one person that can call her to other,” Antoine added, and my eyes lit up at the idea, and every other person looked at each other, and we all said the name together.

“Aunt Laura,”

I felt a sneer on my lips. Laura Lockwood. My father’s younger sister is the absolute black sheep of our bloodline. She had run off years ago to marry a human businessman, tarnishing our noble name. She rarely came back to the pack, and honestly, we left it that way.

“Laura is a traitor to her own kind,” Dad spat, finally turning around. “But she’s the only leash we have left for Eloise. If we can get Laura here, we can force that brat to hand over the shares.”

“It’s been months since that woman even sent a letter,” my mother added, crossing her arms. “She’s probably forgotten that we

exist.”

Dad narrowed his eyes, I could see smoke kf rage coming out of his nose and ears. He had to speak with the sister who embarrassed him in front of the whole pack, and also the daughter who had turned into a rogue. He must be feeling crazy and angry. “She wouldn’t dare. I’ll track her down.”

The next morning, the mood in the house became better because Dad had finally gotten across to Laura’s household, and the news was better than any of us could have hoped for.

“The black sheep is finally dying,” Dad announced with a chilling smile. “She’s got a growth in her brain. A tumour that has been causing headaches, and apparently, the human doctors overseas can’t do a thing about it.”

“Karma,” I whispered, hoping that Eloise’s own catches up with her sooner than later. A dark thrill buzzed in my chest at the thought. This was perfect; if Laura was weak, then Eloise would be even weaker.

“We need her here,” Antoine said, his voice dropping an octave. “If we bring her to our medical wing, she’s our prisoner. We control who sees her, what medicine she gets, and most importantly, we control Amelia’s access to her.”

Antoine smirked. “I’ll call the hospital directors, and I’ll tell them we are bringing in a prodigal daughter home for specialised

“Exactly.” Dad said. “We use Laura to get those shares back. Laura will sign anything if it means saving the only person who was

there for her when we abandoned her.”

I couldn’t wait to see the look on Eloise’s face when she saw that she was outplayed. She thought she was brilliant and independent. But she was just a pathetic girl who cared too much. In our world, love was just a weapon you use to cut someone’s throat. D

A few hours later, Laura had landed, and Dad was holding her personal phone. It had been ringing incessantly, and Eloise had been the one calling. She was probably worrying about her aunt.

When the phone buzzed again, Dad picked it up, his voice switching into a mask of fake grief.

“So, you finally decided to check in?” he growled into the receiver.

I leaned in, my wolf’s wars picking up Eloise’s sharp and icy tone. “Why are you holding my aunt’s phone, Billy? Where is she?”

“Dont you dare disrespect me and call me by my name. I’m still your father, unfortunately.”

“Well, you heard the keyword, unfortunately.”

“Watch your tone, girl.” Dad snapped with a cruel glint in his eyes. “Your precious Aunt Laura is dying in a hospital bed while you’re out there feeling like a Queen. She’s got a tumour pressing down her brain, and she might not even make it through the week.”

The silence on the other end was delicious, and I could almost smell the shock and fear from over the phone.
