ELOISE.
The sterile, cold smell of antiseptic hit me the moment I git off the elevator. It was a smell every werewolf hated, including me. I caught the familiar stench of the Lockwood family. They were waiting for me like a pack of vultures circling a fallen animal.
The moment they called me to tell me that my Aunt was with them and she was sick, an alarm went off in my head. I knew something was wrong, and I initially wanted to ignore it. But then I realised that I’ve been calling her for over a month now and she hasn’t been picking up, which is unlike her.
I’ve left her messages, voicemails, and made several calls, but I haven’t received a single reply. That factor was what made me indulge them, but I knew they had a plan in mind.
Julian was the first to bar my way. Henkeaned against the door, his eyes glowing with a faint, predatory amber light.
“Well, if it isn’t the runaway. You finally show up now that there is a funeral to plan?”
I didn’t even give him the satisfaction of an answer. I moved toward the VIP wing, but my father, the great Billy, stepped in front of me. His presence was like a heavyweight, meant to make me submit, but we both knew that it was impossible and was never going to happen.”
“Stop right there, Eloise,” he growled. “Your aunt Laura is resting. We have things to discuss before
you
disturb her.”
Antoine stepped forward next, looking more like a shark than a wolf. He held out a fountain pen and a document.
“Let’s keep this simple. Sign the shares back to the company, and I’ll make the call. I know a healer who can save her; she’s the only one who deals with cases like this for werewolves. If you don’t sign, she dies, it’s that simple.”
And there it was. I knew there was something they wanted to ask for. They were after my company’s shares, but I wasn’t stupid, and I wasn’t going to let that happen.
I looked at the paper, then at the greedy faces of my family. My jaw burned with a cold fury. They weren’t trying to save Laura; they were trying to buy my inheritance with her life. Laura was the black sheep of the family because she had chosen to marry a human for love, leaving the pack’s narrow–minded traditions behind. They hated her for it, but now they were using her as a pawn,
I took the contract from Antoine’s hands. For a second, a spark of hope lit up in his eyes. Then, I slowly and deliberately ripped the pages into shreds. I let the pieces fall onto his expensive shoes.
I watched as the hope in his eyes died, and I smirked. Getting from the fact that I did that.
“You really think you can bargain with her life?” I asked, my voice as sharp as a blade. “You don’t care about her, you just want the power Grandma left me.”
“You arrogant brat,” Julian hissed. “Do you have any idea how serious this is? The healer dad knows is a genius. The only other person who could perform this surgery is Doctor Ghost, and that person hasn’t been seen in the supernatural world for years; he only just started showing up again two months ago. You’re killing her for a pile of money.”
“You all are hypocrites,” I said and pushed my father last, using just enough hidden strength to make him stumble back in surprise. I threw open the door to the hospital room and stepped inside.
The sight broke my heart. Aunt Laura, once so vibrant and full of life, looked like a withered leaf. Her skin was so pale, and her wolf’s essence seemed to be sucked away. She had always been the only one who truly saw me, the only one who didn’t care

about pack dynamics and power.
“Aunt Laura,” I whispered, rushing to her bedside and taking her cold hand.
Her eyes fluttered open, clouding with pain, but she managed a tiny smile.
“Eloise…my sweet girl. You shouldn’t have come; it’s a trap.”
“Dont worry about me,” I told her in my trembling voice. “Im going to get you through this.”
Suddenly, the door slammed open, and Billy and the others marched in, refusing to give us a moment of peace.
“Look at her, Eloise.” Billy pointed a trembling finger at the bed. “She’s dying because of your pride. Tell her. Tell her, Laura. Tell her to sign over the company shares so we can save you.”
Laura’s chest heaved as she struggled to breathe. Her voice was weak, but her spirit remained as fierce as ever.
“Billy….get out…” she heaved again. “You don’t want to save me, you just want to rob her.” Then she held both of my hands tightly. “Our mother gave you these shares for a reason; she could foresee this happening, so guard those shares with your life, baby.” She finally got out and went into a coughing fit.
I grabbed a glass of water beside the bed and tipped it af her lips for her to drink.
