The living room of the Lockwood family was filled with the heavy scent of expensive cologne and the sharp, medicinal tang of the antiseptic the pack doctor was using on my face. Every time the cool liquid hit my split lip, I made sure to flinch just enough so that Antoine’s grip on my arm would tighten.
I was tucked into the corner of the velvet sofa, wrapped in a cashmere throw that cost more than most people make in a year. I looked like a broke bird, or at least that was the goal. Thought I was sure I looked the party from the mad beating those thugs gave
“Easy, doc,” Antoine growled, his voice vibrating deep in his chest.
“You’re hurting her,” he added.
“Im sorry, Mr Lockwood, the bruising is quite deep,” the doctor said.
I looked at my reflection in the darkened window, and my face was a mess of purple and blue. And my eyes were red from the tears I cried earlier. The pain was real, and it throbbed with every heartbeat, but the satisfaction I felt inside was even stronger.
“I can’t believe she would go this far,” Julian said, pacing the length of the room like a caged tiger.
He had washed the blood of those thugs off his knuckles, but he still looked ready to kill someone. “To hire men to violate you? And then to still film it? That’s downright cruel.”
“She’s always been jealous.” My mother said, sobbing into a handkerchief. She sat on my other side, stroking my hair. “Ever since we brought her back home from the rogue camp those years ago, she’s been a black cloud. But this? This is demonic. My poor, sweet Summer. You didn’t deserve this.”
I leaned my head against my mother’s shoulder, letting out a soft and shaky breath.
“Maybe she didn’t mean to go that far, Mum. Maybe she just wanted to scare me? I want to believe there’s still some good in her. She’s my sister.”
“She is not your sister. No daughter of mine would ever act like a common criminal. I don’t care if she’s the Queen; there are laws even for the Lycan King’s mate. I’m calling the High Elder’s council in the morning. We are pressing charges for attempted assault and kidnapping.” Dad growled.
“Maybe it’s because she feels I’m not her sister because I’m adopted and she’s the real daughter,” I said, making sure I sounded pitiful.
“You’re our daughter as much as she is, but what she has been doing has just proved that she’s not my daughter,” my father said.
“And what about the King? Do you think he’ll just sit by and watch as it destroys his Queen? Or is he just as corrupt as she is?” My
mother said.
“There is a possibility that they are both in on it, one of the thugs said. A man approached him first,” Julian explained, and his father nodded.
“Well, I don’t think Damon Black is someone who hides behind anybody. But I don’t give a fuck. I’m making a call to the council in the morning.”

“What if…. she’s doing it because she’s unhappy? Maybe the King isn’t treating her the way he portrays he’s doing. I heard rumors that she’s been seeing another man. Maybe she’s projecting her guilt onto me. If we can find out who he is, then we can show the King the truth and even get on the good side of the King.” I added.
“We’ll find him. If there’s another man, we will drag him out of the hole he’s hiding.” Antoine rumbled.
Just as the air in the room filled with tension and everyone was in their thoughts about the things to do next, the temperature of the room suddenly dropped ten degrees. There was no knock, no warning; the guards didn’t even announce the entrance.
Eloise walked in.
Oh no.
She didn’t look like a villain; she was wearing a simple white shirt and blue jeans, with her long hair pulled back into a messy yet neat ponytail. She looked like she had just stepped out for a walk, not like she had just orchestrated a brutal attack on her sister. But there was something different about the confidence she moved with. She had the aura of a Queen, a weight of power that made it hard to breathe.
The doctor scrambled to his feet, got on his knees, and bowed, sensing the Lycan power rolling off her.
上
“My Queen,” he greeted.
“You may stand up,” she said, and the man stood up and returned to what he was doing.
