Chapter 191
Matthew’s POV
The air in the room became tense, with our Alpha energies colliding. Ryan and the caretakers nervously retreated to the walls.
“Nathan,” I remained calm, “this isn’t about authority or territory. Emma needs medical help, and her condition is more complex than just the flu. Her wolf is resisting healing, which relates to her husband’s death.”
Nathan’s expression suddenly became complex, with a strange emotion flashing in his eyes. “That’s none of your business. She’s been like this for a year
now.
“But the flu could kill her now,” I insisted. “If her wolf doesn’t cooperate, the medication’s effect will be greatly reduced. We need to-”
“We don’t need anything!” Nathan snapped, stepping forward to grab the IV line and yanking it from Emma’s arm. Emma let out a weak moan. “Pack up your
drugs and leave. This is my pack, and I decide what happens.”
I felt anger rising, my wolf Hati growling in my mind. I forced myself to remain calm. “Your actions are endangering her life. As a healer, I cannot stand by
and watch.”
Nathan sneered. “Healer? You’re just an outsider trying to interfere in matters that don’t concern you. Emma’s been this way since Robert died, her damn
wolf refusing to live on. That’s her choice!”
“No werewolf chooses to give up life,” I countered. “There must be another reason. Mate’s Grief is terrible, but time will—”
“Mate’s Grief?” Nathan suddenly laughed, his voice full of mockery. “You think she’s like this because she misses Robert? That old man should have died
sooner! If he hadn’t stubbornly refused to step down, I would have been Alpha long ago!”
The room suddenly fell silent, everyone staring at Nathan in shock. I felt a chill crawl up my spine. “What are you saying?”
Nathan seemed to realize he’d said too much, but anger had made him lose control. “I’m saying she has no reason to be like this! I gave her a year to mourn
that damn old man, but she’s still wallowing in self–pity. How could he possibly have died if I hadn’t put poison in his tea? I was the one who deserved to be
Alpha!”
The entire room froze in shocked silence. Ryan and the caretakers stared wide–eyed, and Emma let out a painful sob.
I felt a wave of pure anger wash over me. This was murder in the most painful way.
“You murdered your own father…” I said quietly, my voice tight with controlled anger.
Nathan seemed to wake from his rage, realizing what he’d revealed. His expression quickly shifted from shock to threatening. You have no proof. And even
if you did, who would believe an outside Alpha? Especially one who covets my pack?”
I felt Hati’s fury merge with my own. “You have no respect for life,” I said, my voice low and dangerous. “Not for your father, not for Emma, not for the entire
pack. You’re not worthy to be an Alpha.”
“Get out of my territory!” Nathan roared, his eyes beginning to show the wolf’s golden color. ‘Or I’ll have you expelled by the Council for territorial violation!”
The tension finally snapped. Nathan lunged at me with a guttural roar, his partially shifted form moving with predatory speed. I sidestepped his initial attack, years of Alpha training evident in my reflexes. As he spun to face me again, I caught his arm and used his momentum to slam him against the wall,

plaster cracking under the impact.
“You don’t want this fight, Nathan,” I warned, my voice dropping to a dangerous growl.
He responded by spitting in my face and driving his knee toward my groin. I blocked with my thigh, but his claws raked across my forearm, drawing blood. The metallic scent filled the room, and I felt Hati surge forward in my consciousness, demanding control.
“You think you’re better than me?” Nathan snarled, circling me. “This is MY territory. MY pack!”
I kept my stance balanced, tracking his movements. “A true Alpha protects his pack. You murdered your father for power.”
Nathan attacked again, this time with more control, slashing at my face and chest in quick succession. I blocked most strikes but felt his claws tear through my shirt and graze my ribs. The pain only fueled my focus. When he overextended on a lunge, I caught him with a powerful hook to his jaw, sending him
sprawling across Emma’s nightstand.
Kill him, Hati urged in my mind, his voice primal and insistent. He’s unworthy. Dangerous.
Nathan wiped blood from his mouth, a strange smile forming. “You’re not as righteous as you pretend, Collins. I see the killer in your eyes.”
He was right. With each exchange, I was slipping further into the wolf’s mindset–territory, dominance, elimination of threats. My vision started shifting, edges taking on the golden tint of partial shifting.
Nathan suddenly grabbed a glass vase and hurled it at my face. As I deflected it, he used the distraction to drive something sharp into my side–a letter opener from the nightstand. Pain seared through me as he twisted the improvised weapon before yanking it out.
“Not so mighty now,” he hissed.
The pain and betrayal of fighting dirty pushed me over the edge. I roared, a sound more wolf than human, and tackled Nathan to the ground. My hands, now half–transformed into claws, wrapped around his throat. I squeezed, watching his eyes bulge as he struggled beneath me.
End him, Hati commanded, and I was inclined to obey. This man had murdered his father, endangered his pack, and would harm Julia if given the chance. The wolf’s logic was simple: eliminate the threat.
Blood from my side wound dripped onto Nathan’s face as I tightened my grip. His struggles weakened, his eyes showing the first flickers of real fear.
‘Matthew, STOP!”
A new voice cut through the haze of rage. Strong hands grabbed my shoulders, trying to pull me back.
‘You’ll kill him! This isn’t you–don’t let him make you a murderer!”
Eric’s voice finally registered. I felt his grip on my shoulders, trying to pull me off Nathan. Part of me—the human part–koew he was right, buc Hall was control now, driven by the primal need to eliminate a threat to pack, to mate, to order.
