Victor and Jade exchanged wide–eyed glances, both clearly taken aback. Finn clearly had some profound connections–enough to make even Mateo think twice. Yet here he was, cowering in fear and running away after only a couple of words from Leander. Thinking about the clout someone would need to instill such fear was mind–boggling.
Victor felt a knot form in his stomach, thinking, Am I really misjudging Leander? It seems impossible that Finn, who can intimidate Mateo with just a few words, is actually just some rural kid. That just doesn’t add up.
Jade felt her stomach drop as she recalled her earlier conflict with Leander. A chill ran through her as she thought, If Leander holds a vendetta and brings me up to Finn or Mateo, I’ll be in deep trouble.
The other students remained frozen in shock, struggling to process what had just happened. The room was eerily quiet until Liam broke the silence. “Leander, actually send that guy running? Seriously, why do you so freak him out?”
All eyes turned to Leander, eager for his explanation.
“Come on, it’s not a big deal; no need to act so dramatic!” Leander replied with a casual grin.
He added, “I just happen to know that punk’s dad. If I told him what his son’s been up to, he’d be in a world of hurt. That’s why that brat is scared of me.”
Liam blinked as the realization hit him, slowly putting the pieces together. True to his straightforward nature, he took Leander’s words at face value. Other naive classmates nodded along, accepting his explanation without a second thought.
Still, Victor and Jade, being the sharp ones, weren’t buying it.
Shirley’s eyes wavered with doubt as she listened. Leander might indeed know Finn’s dad, but claiming he scared Finn into running away seems far–fetched. Knowing Finn’s dad implies he has considerable influence, even if there’s some truth to it. Still, Leander is very impressive.
Reflecting on Liam’s bond with Leander, Shirley adjusted her demeanor. During the party, she became more engaging and friendly towards him, which delighted Liam.
Leander observed this shift in Shirley’s behavior and stayed silent, thinking, If I can assist Liam in winning her over, I’m all for it.
Meanwhile, students who had once kept their distance from Leander or criticized his freeways were suddenly eager to befriend him, raising toasts in his honor. After all, his bold words to Finn were still vivid in everyone’s memory–who would be foolish enough to underestimate him? Having Leander as a friend could only pay off in the long run.

In contrast, Jade and Victor remained noticeably quieter. Jade avoided Leander’s gaze all night, clearly uneasy.
Later, Leander and Madeline walked home together after the party. Midway through their stroll, Madeline suddenly paused and turned to him. “Leander, why is Finn so scared of you? It can’t just be for the reason you gave, right?”
Leander smiled knowingly. He appreciated that this sharp–minded girl wouldn’t be easily swayed by his reasoning. Cracking his knuckles, he countered, “Oh, it’s not merely that! The truth is, he’s afraid of my strength!”
Madeline furrowed her brow, clearly unconvinced. “Finn isn’t even scared of Mateo. He must have some pretty tough guys backing him up. Why would he be intimidated by you?”
Leander softly ruffled her hair, gazing into the distance as he spoke calmly, “Madeline, there are things in this world that are difficult to comprehend. If someone possesses enough strength to obliterate anything, what more could they fear?”
Madeline nodded in thought, not pushing the subject further. Still, she struggled to grasp how one person’s power could disrupt a world constructed on fortune and control, regardless of its might.
Meanwhile, a middle–aged man in a suit sat thoughtfully on a courtyard bench in a luxurious villa in Candor of Glenwick. Next to him stood Emma, a young woman whose charisma was undeniable. She was Winston Reyne’s daughter.
Emma radiated vitality and elegance in her attire, her slim legs subtly outlined by the fabric, showcasing her striking beauty. She observed her father’s sigh and asked, “Dad, what’s on your mind? You seem preoccupied.”
Winston straightened up, a hint of guilt crossing his face. “Emma, it’s rare for you to visit, and I feel bad that you have to see me like this.”
Emma smiled softly, shaking her head while she massaged his shoulders. “Dad, I recall how anxious you were when Maeve went missing. Now that she’s back and flourishing, why the sad face?”
A brief sense of comfort enveloped Winston as he reflected on his daughters‘ remarkable achievements and the accolades they had received. However, the promise he made six months ago lingered heavily in his mind, casting a shadow over his expression.
“Emma, I can’t stop thinking about Maeve. Two years ago, she lost her sight and slipped away when we weren’t paying attention, which led to her disappearance. Then, six months ago, a young man brought her back home and left us with a medicine that restored her vision.”
“When Maeve came back, I was over the moon. In that moment of joy, I foolishly promised to

marry her off to that young man someday. Now that I reflect on it, I think that might have been a mistake.”
“Sure, he saved Maeve’s life and restored her sight, but I hardly know anything about him. I shouldn’t have jumped to conclusions and promised your sister to someone I don’t know well. He might look charming and handsome, but his clothes hint at a more modest background. Considering Maeve’s standing in Astria, her future husband should come from a rich family or have some important connections. An average guy just won’t cut it.”
Winston let out a heavy sigh. “You know how much I value my promises. Now that I’ve given my word, how can I retract it? That’s what bothers me.”
Finally grasping her dad’s dilemma, Emma thought momentarily before responding, “Dad, you don’t need to stress about this. I’ll take care of it.”
“Just tell me where he is. He deserves our gratitude since he brought Maeve home and restored her sight. I’ll offer him ten million to retract that promise.” Her tone was relaxed yet commanding, as if she were used to being in power and had little regard for regular folks.
Winston frowned and gently shook his head. “All I know is he’s in Mornwick, but I have no idea where exactly. He didn’t even leave a name—just this unclear image from the security footage from his visit to our place.”
As he spoke, Winston pulled out a somewhat blurry photo of a young man–Leander, no less.
