Chapter 205
“Sabi, please…” Caelan’s voice cracked, trembling as he took a cautious step forward, his hands reaching out in a pleading gesture. “Put the knife down. Let’s just talk this through.”
I pressed the cold steel of the blade harder against my throat, feeling its unforgiving chill bite into my skin. “Don’t come any closer!” I warned, voice sharp and unyielding.
He halted instantly, eyes wide with fear. “Okay, okay, I won’t move,” he said, raising his hands in surrender, which shook slightly. “But please, don’t hurt yourself. Whatever demands you have, I’ll accept them all.”
“I’ve already told you what I want,” I said, voice rough but firm. “I want you to break our Mate Bond.”
“No, Sabi. I can’t do that. I can’t lose you,” he replied, desperation bleeding into his words.
“You’re just scared of losing your way to ease your guilt!” I spat, the knife trembling slightly in my grasp.
His face drained of color. “That’s not true—”
“Stop lying!” I screamed, fury spilling over. “You’ve been deceiving me for years! Did it feel good, watching me fall for you piece by piece? Did you laugh at how easy it was to fool a foolish girl whose mother you murdered?”
The blade’s edge bit into my skin, drawing a thin line of blood that trickled down my neck.
“Sabi, stop!” Caelan lunged forward, instinct taking over.
“I said don’t move!” I hissed, pressing the knife deeper. “Take one more step and I swear I’ll slit my throat right here!”
He stumbled back, breath ragged. “Please, calm down. Let’s talk this through, rationally.”
“There’s nothing left to discuss.” Blood dripped down my neck, mingling with the cold sweat on my forehead. “I want the Mate Bond severed. That’s final.”
Tears streamed down Caelan’s cheeks as he shook his head in anguish. “I can’t live without you, Sabi. Without you, I’m nothing but a lifeless shell.”
His voice cracked completely. “Please don’t leave me. I’ll die—I really will—without you.”
“Stop pretending!” My voice rose, shrill and raw. “You tricked me for years; you must have enjoyed it! Watching me love you while knowing you killed my mother—your revenge is complete.”
Suddenly, the baby inside me kicked violently, reacting to the storm of emotions raging within. Sharp pains stabbed through my abdomen.
“Ah…!” I doubled over, clutching my stomach with one hand, while the other still held the knife to my throat. Cold sweat beaded on my forehead.
“Sabi!” Caelan moved forward again, panic in his voice. “You’re having contractions! Put the knife down—I’ll call the doctor right now!”
“Stay back!” I gasped through the pain, vision blurring at the edges.
Desperation filled Caelan’s eyes. “Please, for our daughter’s sake, don’t hurt yourself. If you hate me, kill me instead.”
His voice softened to a pleading whisper. “I’ll die right now if that’s what you want, but please don’t harm yourself or the baby. She’s innocent in all this.”
As the pain eased slightly, my fury only deepened. In a swift motion, I turned the blade away from my throat and pointed it directly at Caelan’s chest.
“My mother suffered a thousand times worse when she died!”
“This little scratch means nothing to you! You’re the Lycan King—this won’t even kill you!”
I pressed my hand against my chest, feeling the torment of the bond.
Caelan sank to his knees, blood continuing to seep from the wound. Each word was a struggle. “I love you… not for revenge, not for politics… but because you are you.”
“Because your smile lights up my entire world…”
Blood pooled beneath him as he reached toward me with a trembling hand. “Please… please don’t leave me. I can find the truth. I can prove my innocence.”
His voice broke, raw and pleading. “Give me a chance… even if it’s just for our daughter. Don’t let her grow up fatherless. Don’t let her wonder where Daddy went.”
He rested his forehead against the cold marble, blood spreading beneath him. “I can’t exist without you, Sabi. Without you, I’m nothing.”
“If breaking the Mate Bond will make you happy, I’ll do it… but please don’t disappear completely. Let me watch over you and the baby from afar.”
Seeing Caelan’s anguish and the blood spreading around him, my fury slowly melted into crushing sorrow. Tears fell like rain as I staggered backward, overwhelmed by the weight of everything.
