Chapter 206
“Why…” My voice cracked, thick with despair. “Why did it have to end like this?”
I covered my face with my hands, shoulders shaking with uncontrollable sobs. “I thought I’d finally found true love… thought we would grow old together… but reality is so cruel…”
“Why did it have to be you?” I cried out, anguish twisting my heart. “Why did I have to fall for my enemy? Why would the Moon Goddess put us through such a cruel test?”
I sank to my knees, wrapping my arms around my head, feeling utterly broken. “It’s all my fault… I’m so stupid…”
Gently stroking my belly, I whispered through my tears to the life growing inside me. “Mommy’s sorry… I’m so sorry, baby. Mommy let Grandma down… Mommy married the man who killed her… and now I’m carrying his child.”
My voice shattered with every word. “How can I face you? How do I explain that your father might have murdered your grandmother? How do I make any sense of this?”
“I hate myself… I hate this world… I hate this cursed fate.”
Seeing me so broken, Caelan crawled toward me despite his bleeding wound, leaving a trail of blood behind him.
With trembling, blood-stained fingers, he wiped my tears away. “Don’t cry… please don’t cry. Seeing you cry hurts more than dying… I’d rather endure a thousand wounds than watch you shed a single tear.”
“If my existence only brings you pain… if living reminds you of terrible things… then we’ll do as you said.”
Tears mixed with blood on the floor beneath us. “I wanted to give you a fairy-tale ending… to make you the happiest woman alive… but instead, I became your worst nightmare.”
I forced myself to stop crying and looked at him with cold resolve. “Break our Mate Bond immediately, Caelan. We’re done. Stop dreaming—we can never go back. I will never be with my mother’s killer.”
“Sabi, you’re pregnant. Breaking the Mate Bond now could cause a miscarriage.” Caelan pressed his hand to his bleeding chest. “Can we wait until after you give birth? Please, just one chance. I promise I’ll uncover the truth. I would never kill Isabella.”
“I can’t bear having your mark on me for another second.” My voice was icy. “I know, as Lycan King, you have ways to sever the bond without harming the baby. If you refuse, I’ll take the baby with me when I die.”
Caelan bowed his head in silence for a long moment. When he finally looked up, defeat clouded his eyes.
“Fine. I agree,” he said, voice ragged. “Tomorrow, I’ll arrange for a doctor to give you medication to protect the pregnancy.”
“Then… you’ll be free. You can start over… find someone truly worthy of your love.”
“I’ll protect you and the child from afar, but I won’t appear before you again. I’ll live as a stranger until you forget me completely.”
He made one last, barely audible plea. “But Sabi… before we break the bond… could you let me hold you one last time? Consider it… our final goodbye to what we once had.”
His eyes shone with desperate longing. “I want to remember your warmth… your scent. So in the long days ahead, I’ll have something to hold onto.”
The room felt heavy with sorrow as we stood on the edge of a heartbreaking farewell.I know I have no right to ask anything but this is my fast wish if you re unwilling, 1 sont force you
Though my heart was Ideeding, I remained resolute wiped my tears and turned away from him.
Pointing toward the door, my voice trembled but stayed firm How please lease i don’t want to see you arrymore?
Third Person POV
Carlan, stared at Sable’s hack, memories of their happiest moments flashing through his mind.
I remember the first time you smiled and called my name… remember when you curled up in my arms and told me you loved me…
I thought werd watch our daughter grow up together… have several children… grow old side by side… walk through life together, I never imagined this would be our ending..
Fighting through his agony, he struggled to his feet. ‘Maybe… maybe separation is better for you. At least you won’t suffer anymore
He took one last, long look at Sable, trying to memorize every detail
Sabi… whether you believe it or not… I love you. 111 love you for the rest of this life and beyond. If there’s a next life, I hope we can start ver
Take care of yourself… take care of our daughter. Tell her… tell her Daddy loves her very much, but he can’t stay by her side.”
Clutching his wounded chest, he slowly stood and walked toward the door. At the threshold, he hesitated for a long time, his hand on the doorknob but unable to turn it.
My throat closed up.
He made this.
Every weekend since we’d been together, Caelan would wake before me to prepare exactly this breakfast. He’d arrange the blueberries into a smiley face on the toast, trying to make me laugh. He’d always taste the milk first to make sure it wasn’t too hot.
The tears came again, hot and relentless.
I had no appetite. The thought of food made my stomach turn. But I placed my hand over my belly, feeling the slight curve where our daughter was growing.
“I’m sorry, baby,” I whispered. “Mommy needs to eat for you.”
I forced myself to take one bite. Then another. The French toast turned to ash in my mouth, but I chewed mechanically. For her. For the tiny life depending on me.
When I finally finished half the plate, I walked to the bathroom to wash my face.
The blood was still there.
Dark stains on the marble floor where he’d bled.
I gripped the sink edge, fighting another wave of grief.
After washing my face with cold water, I caught my reflection in the mirror. Puffy red eyes. Hollow cheeks.
I opened the bathroom door and walked toward the living room.
The curtains were half-drawn, casting everything in dim, oppressive shadows. Medical supplies were scattered across the coffee table -gauze, antiseptic bottles, surgical tape. The metallic scent of blood still lingered in the air.
Caelan sat rigid on the edge of the sofa, wearing a charcoal gray sweatshirt. White bandages wrapped his left chest. His jaw was covered in stubble, his eyes bloodshot from sleeplessness. He looked like he’d aged years in one night.
Dr. Reynolds sat across from him, a middle-aged man with graying hair and wire-rimmed glasses. His medical bag rested at his feet.
