The rain was light and steady on the way back. I leaned into the seat, eyes closed, letting the soft rhythm tap against the windows.

Vera drove slowly, giving me space to rest. After a short nap, I opened my eyes and got straight to the point.

“I’ll send you a list of medications in a bit. Take it to the FI Institute and have them prepare everything exactly as listed. Make sure it’s delivered to the Howell estate.”

“Yes, Miss Soren,” Vera said respectfully.

I added, “Some of the items I’ve marked might be hard to get. Let the people at FI know that cost isn’t an issue. What matters is the quality.”

After all, Kade was the Alpha King’s heir. If he lacked anything, it certainly wasn’t money.

“And one more thing,” I paused, “keep an eye on the Smith family for me.”

Mina’s death had happened inside the Soren estate. Her family had every right to cut ties, and I wasn’t about to disturb their peace again.

“I understand, Miss Soren,” Vera said quietly.

Back at the estate, I had barely stepped through the door when the sound of piano music drifted down from the second floor.

I didn’t even have to guess. It was Janice practicing in the music room.

I had to admit, she had some real talent. Otherwise, she wouldn’t have had the nerve to brag about applying to become Jude’s apprentice.

Still, I didn’t intend to let her get her way so easily.

This engagement between the Howell and Soren families had everyone talking. People like Aven believed it was nothing more than a temporary convenience for the Howells. But that didn’t stop some overly ambitious alphas from smaller packs from jumping at the chance to cozy up to our family.

Damon had been soaking up the spotlight, especially with alphas from mid–tier packs trying to cozy up like they finally had something in common.

When I heard about it, I just laughed. This game had barely begun. He could enjoy it for now.

Two days from now was Janice’s eighteenth birthday, and the Sorens were planning it like a royal gala. Invitations had gone out left and right.

No one even remembered that Janice and I had been born on the same day. The entire estate was in a frenzy preparing for her party. Nolan and Eli had even flown in from overseas.

“Eli! Nolan!” Janice squealed as they entered through the front door, running straight into their

arms.

Nolan opened his arms with a grin and scooped her up.

“Janice, we’re back! Miss us?” he said, pinching her cheek with a doting smile.

“Of course I did.” Janice giggled, snuggling into his chest.

Eli ruffled her hair, then gave me a glance that was far from friendly. His voice dropped slightly.

“Don’t worry, Janice. I’m here now. No one’s going to mess with you again.”

I raised an eyebrow and let out a cold laugh. I hadn’t forgotten what he did back when I first returned to the estate.

All Janice had done was cry after a nightmare, worried she’d be sent away. Eli responded by throwing me someone who couldn’t swim–into the deep end of the pool and told the staff to beat me with poles if I tried to climb out.

I nearly drowned that night.

“Some people really don’t know their place,” Nolan said, looking right at me. “A wolfless nobody trying to climb her way into the Howell family? Who does she think she is?”

I drew in a slow breath, pushing down the furious energy burning in Lyra’s soul. She wanted blood.
