Kade paused the moment his eyes landed on me, undisguised excitement flickering across his face.

He hurried over to the bedside, his voice low and hurried. You’re awake? How do

you feel?

I closed the book and spoke in a relaxed tone to comfort him, I’m fine now. I’ve mostly recovered. I should be able to leave the ward after two more days of observation.

In truth, I had fully healed. Lyra’s dormant period had ended, and Lyra’s protection sped up my physical recovery greatly.

Kade stared intently at me with burning eyes for a long while. He finally breathed easy after confirming I suffered no serious harm.

His tone stayed deep, carrying unexpected gentleness. You never should have ventured into the wild woods. Do you realize how perilous that place is?

I froze for a moment.

Is he genuinely concerned about me?

He seemed to care deeply.

Yet I doubted my own judgment. In his view, I possessed no wolf spirit at all. As the prestigious primary heir to the Alpha King throne, how could he truly have feelings for someone like me?

I told myself not to indulge in wishful thinking.

I took a deep breath to steady my thoughts and smiled calmly. “We hold a mutual partnership. I could not stand by and watch you die. Besides, any harm coming to you would disrupt all my plans.”

Kade frowned slightly. A hint of disappointment seemed to flash in his eyes, though I could not be certain.

I chose not to dwell on it.

He fell silent for a short time, then masked his emotions, his tone turning back to usual composure. Regardless, I owe you my life for saving me this time.

I brushed his words off casually. No need for formal gratitude. We simply benefit from each other.

Kade said nothing further and just nodded. His gaze remained fixed on my face, as if searching for something hidden within my expression.

I will step outside for a moment.

I gave a slight nod in reply.

Soon after, Kade returned with a plate of neatly sliced apples and set it down on the bedside table.

Every piece was even in size, the fruit peeled clean and looking delicate and appealing.

I recalled the days we fell off the cliff. Born into nobility, he proved skilled at all kinds of tasks, even ordinary household chores.

I picked up a slice and took a bite. It tasted crisp and sweet. I smiled toward him. “Thank you, Mr. Howell.

Kade’s brows drew together. He studied my face and spoke hesitantly, Since we work together, you may call me by my given name just like before.

I looked up at him and blinked. Very well, Kade. You can call me Nira too, instead of addressing me formally all the time.”

Nira.He pronounced my name slowly and softly, as if savoring every syllable.

His eyes rested on me, faint tenderness and anticipation hidden in his gaze.

I grew startled by his unusually gentle look and quickly shifted my eyes away. I nodded with a light smile. It does sound far more natural this way.

Contentment crossed Kade’s features. He pulled out a chair and sat down beside the bed.
