He hurried over to the bedside, his voice low and hurried. “You’re awake? How do

you feel?”

I closed the book and spoke in a relaxed tone to comfort him, “I’m fine now. I’ve mostly recovered. I should be able to leave the ward after two more days of observation.”

In truth, I had fully healed. Lyra’s dormant period had ended, and Lyra’s protection sped up my physical recovery greatly.

Kade stared intently at me with burning eyes for a long while. He finally breathed easy after confirming I suffered no serious harm.

His tone stayed deep, carrying unexpected gentleness. “You never should have ventured into the wild woods. Do you realize how perilous that place is?”

I froze for a moment.

Is he genuinely concerned about me?

I chose not to dwell on it.

I brushed his words off casually. “No need for formal gratitude. We simply benefit from each other.”

Kade’s brows drew together. He studied my face and spoke hesitantly, “Since we work together, you may call me by my given name just like before.”

I looked up at him and blinked. “Very well, Kade. You can call me Nira too, instead of addressing me formally all the time.”

“Nira.” He pronounced my name slowly and softly, as if savoring every syllable.

His eyes rested on me, faint tenderness and anticipation hidden in his gaze.

I grew startled by his unusually gentle look and quickly shifted my eyes away. I nodded with a light smile. “It does sound far more natural this way.”

Contentment crossed Kade’s features. He pulled out a chair and sat down beside the bed.
