Chapter 170 Silent Confrontation
Nira’s POV:
Damian walked up to the bed and held out the bouquet toward me.
“These flowers are for you. Wish you a speedy recovery.”

I reached out to take them, but Kade darted forward instantly and grabbed the flowers first.
“Thank you for your concern toward Nira.”
Damian’s hand froze mid–air before he pulled it back. His smile stayed gentle, yet his narrowed wolf eyes betrayed his sharp hostility.
He turned to Kade and spoke in a probing tone, “Word spreads that Howell Group is facing a leadership shift. How do you have spare time to stay in the ward?”
Kade glanced at him calmly, his voice carrying a cold edge.
“Instead of meddling in our internal affairs, you ought to focus on managing your own packs and businesses. I heard your proposal to cooperate with Ironvale Pack got rejected.”
A cold glint flashed across Damian’s eyes, though he kept a smile on his face.
“It seems Flores Group still has much room for improvement. They ultimately chose Howell Group. I still have plenty to learn from you.”
I watched their subtle verbal sparring quietly. Damian lacked experience and was constantly outmatched by Kade.
Unable to gain the upper hand, Damian shifted his attention back to me.
“Miss Soren, I specially ordered these lilies. They help soothe the mind and speed up your recovery.”
He then asked with a casual smile, “You were perfectly fine the last time we met. How did you fall ill all of a sudden?”
Kade frowned the moment the words left his mouth.
I smiled faintly. “You know people without wolf spirits tend to get sick easily. It is nothing serious. Thanks for your concern.”
As Damian and I kept talking, Kade came over with medicine and cut our conversation short. “Nira, it is time to take your pills.”

He handed the medicine to me carefully like a devoted attendant. I stared at him in surprise.
He then placed a glass of warm water in my palm and spoke softly, “Drink this. The temperature is just right.”
I took the medicine absentmindedly, wondering why the dosage time had changed from after meals.
Damian resumed chatting with me afterward. Kade had intended to step outside, yet he halted his steps and returned. He held a peeled orange to my lips.
“This tastes sweet. Have a bite.”
I looked at him blankly and took a bite. The fruit was truly fresh and sweet.
Kade gazed at me steadily, a soft smile tugging at his lips, his eyes filled with fondness.
His odd behavior left me confused. Meanwhile, Damian’s expression grew darker and darker, glaring challengingly at Kade now and then.
Kade spoke up to end the visit, “Nira needs rest. You may come back another day.”
Damian pressed his lips tight and slowly stood up. Ignoring Kade, he smiled at me. “Rest well. I will pay another visit later.”
I nodded in response.
Damian turned and left without glancing at Kade even once.
Kade paid no heed. He picked up the lily bouquet and remarked, “I heard lilies easily attract bugs.”
He carried the flowers out of the ward and came back empty–handed soon after.
He walked to the window and checked the weather, then looked at me gently.
“It is lovely outside. Would you like to take a walk?”
I blinked and teased him deliberately, “You just said I needed to rest a moment ago.”
Kade fell momentarily lost for words. He explained after a pause, “I just thought chatting with him would drain your energy. He is a scheming man.”
I nodded in agreement. “He kept smiling even when he was clearly upset. He hides his emotions well and deserves careful caution.”
