Nira’s POV:
Kade’s expression instantly turned icy.

He nudged his horse forward until he was beside me, then fixed Damian with a guarded, sharp–eyed stare–the kind that made him look every bit the Alpha heir. “Didn’t expect to run into your bere either, Mr. Flores. Small world.”
“Seems that way,” Damian replied, a faint smile touching his lips. “Call it fate, maybe”
His gaze drifted to me, and his smile softened slightly, turning a touch more genuine. His voice lowered, “Nira. It’s been a while
I gave him a polite but distant nod. “Hello, Mr. Flores.”
Damian didn’t appear bothered by my cool tone. He kept smiling. “Nira, that black stallion is clearly something special. You handle him beautifully. We should ride together sometime.”
I patted the horse’s neck. “Thank you. Kade gave him to me.”
For a brief moment, Damian’s smile faltered when he heard Kade’s name.
Zane and the others arrived one by then. Spotting Damian and his companions, Zane curled his lip and muttered under his breath, “Can’t go anywhere without bumping into these guys, huh?”
Tessa trotted up from the other side and announced loudly, “Mr. Howell, your group’s haul is impressive. You’ve definitely got first place locked up.”
Damian’s eyes lingered on the horse beneath me. Something unreadable flickered in his gaze, but his polite smile never wavered. “So Nira has a taste for spirited horses-”
He deliberately drew out the words, then shot Kade a challenging look. “I recently acquired a pure Akhal–Teke stallion. One of a kind. Extremely rare. I’ll have it delivered to Ms. Soren tomorrow.”
Kade’s grip on the reins tightened abruptly. That familiar, predatory gleam flashed in his eyes, sharp and dangerous. “That’s generous, Mr. Flores, but Nira doesn’t need another horse.”
“Now, Mr. Howell, that’s not really for you to decide.” Damian let out a low chuckle, tapping his riding crop against his palm. “From what I hear, you and Nira are no longer engaged. Whether she accepts a gift is her choice. What gives you the right to speak for her?”
He emphasized “no longer engaged” just loudly enough for a few whispers to stir among his entourage.
Watching him provoke Kade so deliberately, a realization settled in my mind. Damian was going to be more trouble than I’d anticipated.
He was one of the rare few who showed no fear toward Kade, the future Alpha King.
And he acted as though he already knew me from somewhere–though I couldn’t recall ever meeting anyone like him in my past.
Hayes suddenly stamped a hoof, restless and agitated, snapping me out of my thoughts.
I stroked his neck to soothe him, then looked squarely at Damian and stated firmly, “Mr. Flores, I truly don’t need it.”

Zane snorted a laugh andaode forward to defuse the tension “How about gifting that Akhal–Teke to me instead, Mr. Flores? I’m not picky—I’ll take any fancy horse!”
Briar chimed in immediately. “Hey, count me in 400. I could use a flashy stallion to show off.”
The two of them bantered back and forth, somehow shifting the charged standoff into something almost lighthearted.
