Chapter 187 The Hunt Regins
Chapter 187 The Hunt Begins
Nira’s POV:
When he threw out that idea, Lyra lit up inside my head.
The competitive drive my adoptive father had hammered into me as an Alpha heir was kicking in, too.
He looked over at Briar, then flashed Kade a glance. “Briar and I are partnering up.”
Briar played right along. “Works for me.”
I shot them a sideways look, not sure what those two were scheming,
Kade just stayed quiet on his horse, waiting without a word.
Tessa nudged her mount forward beside me, all enthusiasm. “Nira, let’s team up!”

Zane cut in quickly, “Tessa, you should stick with Derrick. Nira doesn’t have her wolf spirit anymore, and yours is the weakest of the group. You two together would be at a disadvantage.”
Tessa bristled. “Who says we’d be weak? We might not be the best fighters, but we’re way sharper than you guys!”
“Exactly. That’s what makes a power team.” I backed her up with a grin, throwing Zane a look.
“See?” Tessa puffed up proudly. “Just wait–we’ll wipe the floor with you so bad you’ll be crying uncle.”
Zane realized he couldn’t talk her out of it, his wolf eyes narrowing in frustration.
Finally Kade spoke, “Alright, it’s settled. Derrick and I will be a team.”
The hunt officially began. Hayes truly lived up to his champion bloodline–he moved like the wind.
I drew my bow and shot with clean precision, notching a few kills in no time.
Tessa rode close behind me. “Nira, you’re incredible! And Hayes is so fast—1 could barely keep up!”
I laughed over my shoulder. “Better step it up, then. Can’t let them take the win.”
Tessa nodded fiercely. “No way I’m losing! Just watch me!”
While I hunted, I kept tabs on the others.
Zane and Briar were holding their own on the other side.
Zane might’ve been all talk most days, but his hunting skills were no joke. He dropped several reindeer in quick succession.
Briar coordinated with him smoothly–they made a solid pair.
“Hey, check it out over there!” Zane pointed excitedly into the distance. “Looks like a rabbit!”
Briar nodded. “Keep it down or you’ll spook it.”

“Don’t worry,” Zane said, confidence brimming. “I’ve got this”
I shifted my attention to kade’s side..
Derrick stuck close to him, hardly getting a chance to act. Every time he spotted prey, Kade had already taken the shot before Derrick could even move.
So Derrick finally gave up, stowing his bow and hanging back to collect the kills
Kade rode and drew his bow in one fluid motion, each arrow landing true.
His high–level hunting skills matched mine–proof enough he deserved his status as the Alpha King’s her
I was about to look away when I spotted it: a massive stag, the king of the reindeer.
It was several times bigger than the rest, muscular and quick, with a coat that glinted in the light. It grazed calmly in the grass, completely unaware of the danger.
I froze, held my breath, and tugged the reins gently. Hayes halted instantly, standing perfectly still.
But before I could make my move, Kade released his shot. His arrow sliced through the air, headed straight for the stag.
Then, just as it was about to strike, another arrow whistled in from the side and knocked his clean out of the sky.
“Crack!” The two arrows collided mid–air. The stag startled, bolted, and disappeared into the treeline.
I blinked, just as startled as Kade looked. Frowning, I turned to see where the other arrow had come from.
There was Damian, riding up slowly on a brown horse.
Valerie and a few others trailed behind him–looked like they’d been hunting in the riding grounds too.
“Mr. Howell. What a coincidence running into you here,” Damian said, a sharp edge lining his smile.
