Damian let out a soft sigh. “Six years ago, right on the edge of the Twilight Pack’s territory, deep in the forest, you saved my life, too.”
Fragments of a blurred memory flickered through my mind
I vaguely recalled that six years ago, before everything fell apart with Lyra, I had indeed rescued an injured male wolf in those woods. It had been pitch black, and I never got a clear look at his face.
I stared at Damian in disbelief. “That was… you?”
Damian nodded, a hint of genuine gratitude in his tone. “Yeah. I was being hunted by people who wanted me dead. I was in bad shape. You stopped the bleeding and got me to safety. If it weren’t for you, I wouldn’t be here right now.”
So that was it. No wonder Damian always acted a little differently around me.
“I guess we’re even,” Damian said, looking up at me with a hopeful glint in his eyes. “I only told you that because I wanted you to know I genuinely want to be friends.”
I never would have guessed that the wolf I’d saved on a whim six years ago turned out to be Damian.
Just then, the hospital room door swung open, and Kade walked in.
He was holding a sleek takeout bag, his voice laced with concern. “Mra, you haven’t eaten a thing. I brought you some food.”
I took the bag from him and murmured, “Thanks.”
Kade’s gaze shifted to Damian, and his tone instantly cooled. “Mr. Flores, how are you holding up?”
Damian leaned back against the pillows, looking rather pleased with himself. “Thanks for asking, Mr. Howell. I’m doing much better now.”
Kade placed another container on Damian’s nightstand, his voice flat. “This is for you. Eat it while it’s hot.”
Damian glanced at the food, then made a show of grimacing, his voice weak and frail. “Thanks, but… my hymd is killing me. I don’t think I can manage on my own.”
Hearing that, I stood up immediately. “Here, let me help you.”
Kade’s expression darkened the second the words left my mouth. He beat me to the food container, his tone firm, leaving no room for argument. “I’ll feed him.”
My eyes went wide.
The Alpha King heir–the first in line to the throne–was about to hand–feed someone of lower status? Hooked back and forth between the two of them, stunned.
Damian’s face soured as well, and he tried to protest. “Mr. Howell, please don’t trouble yourself. That really isn’t appropriate… Kade didn’t give him a chance to finish. He opened the container, scooped up some seafood broth, and shoved it straight into

Damian’s mouth.
His movements were quick and efficient, almost as if he were daring Damian to refuse.
Damian was forced to take the bite and nearly choked. He barely swallowed it down before Rade scooped up another spoonful and practically shoved that one in, too.
Kade was feeding him far too fast. Damian coughed, choking on the soup, and his face turned a little pale.
Seeing this, I poured a glass of water and handed it to him. “Are you okay? Drink some water.”
Damian took the cup, took a few sips, and his color returned slightly.
He hurriedly said, “Thanks, Mr. Howell. I’m full. Really.”
Kade stood there holding the container, his face blank, as he shot Damian a cold look. “Don’t mention it, Mr. Flores. I certainly hope you are full. Wouldn’t want you lacking the strength to recover.”
Damian insisted quickly, “I’m stuffed. Seriously.”
Kade moved the food container off to the side. Damian seized the opportunity to turn to me. “Nira, could you stay and look after me for a few days? With this injury… it’s going to be hard for me to manage on my own.”
I hesitated, about to answer, but Kade cut in first. “Don’t worry about it. I’ll hire the best professional caregiver for you. They’ll take good care of you, trust me.”
Damian shook his head, his face paling further. “Mr. Howell, you might not be aware, but I have germaphobia. I don’t do well with strangers. Nira has medical training, so she’s the best person for the job.”
Kade’s expression fell instantly. His wolf eyes narrowed, and a dangerous chill flashed through them.
He was about to say something when I tugged lightly on his sleeve and spoke softly, “Kade, Damian got hurt saving me. It’s only right that I look after him for a little while. You should head back. I’ll get in touch with you later.”
Kade looked at me, and I could clearly see the frustration and helplessness in his eyes. But he had to know that if he pushed back now, it would only make things more difficult for me.
He stared at me intensely for a long moment, as if forcing himself to swallow his anger. Finally, he gave in. “Fine. I’ll go. Call me if
Γ you need anything.”
I nodded and whispered, “Okay. Drive safe.”
Kade’s POV:
Nira was actually going to take care of Damian herself.
My possessiveness was screaming at me to hand control over to Odin and tear Damian apart on the spot
But he had just saved Nira’s life. Doing that would only make her hate me.
So I forced the urge down, swallowed all that rage, and headed back to the office building
