Chapter 198 Close Call
Nira’s POV:
Just as I prepared to fight back, his hand cracked across–my face, the force of the blow snapping my head to the side. “You ungrateful bitch. You think you’re too good for me?”
He shifted, his eyes glowing with the eerie light of his wolf, kis sharp canines bared dangerously close to my neck. “You’re so hung up on Kade? Fine. I’m going to cripple him. Then you two can be the perfect pair of rejects together. Hahaha!”
I spit the blood pooling in my mouth onto the floor, staring him down with a cold, unwavering gaze. “What do you actually want, Colt?”
Colt shoved me hard, sending me sprawling to the ground. He snatched my phone from where it had fallen. “You’ll find out soon enough,” he said, his voice dripping with malice.
He held the phone up, dialing Kade.
Kade picked up on the first ring. “Nira?”
I tried to call out to him, to warn him, but Colt’s heavy hand clamped tight over my mouth, silencing me.
“Kade. Told you I’d be back,” Colt sneered into the receiver, a psychotic grin stretching across his face.
Kade’s tone instantly dropped to glacial temperatures. “Colt? What have you done to Nira?”
“Wanna know?” Colt cut him off, sounding unbalanced. “She’s right fere with me. If you ever want to see her alive again, come alone. And remember–just you. Or else… well, you know the drill.Y
Colt ended the call abruptly, then hauled me up and forced me into a chair, binding my wrists tight and securing a strip of duct tape over my mouth.
I reached out for Lyra in my mind, ready to let her take the wheel and tear him apart.
But she was unresponsive.
It dawned on me that she hadn’t been herself lately; she must have slipped into another short dormancy cycle.
This was disastrous.
Colt wasn’t just some run–of–the–mill werewolf. He had been raised to be an Alpha King heir, possessing the same raw potential and training as Kade. Without my wolf spirit to back me up, I was outmatched.
I struggled against the restraints, but Colt had tied the knots with expert precision. I couldn’t budge an inch.
Colt watched me thrash around, laughing like a maniac. “Don’t waste your energy. You’re both dying here today?”
He crouched down in front of me, gripping my chin painfully hard. “You know what? I’ve thought about this every single day. How I would get payback on both of you. Kade threw me in that hellhole of a prison, and you…you ruined my entire life.”
bis voice rose in intensity, his eyes swimming with twisted hatred. “Today, I’m going to make you both feel that pain”
Suddenly, the door splintered open and Kade burst inside.

His eyes were filled with a mix of anguish and fury the second he saw me tied to the chair. Then, he shifted his gaze to Colt, and his expression turned into something lethal.
“Colt. Let her go.”
Colt turned slowly, staring Kade down, his laughter growing even more unhinged. “You made good time: I guess you actually care about her.”
On the surface, Kade looked terrifyingly calm, radiating the aura of a true Alpha King.
He kept his voice low and steady, trying to reason with him. “Colt, if you have a problem with me, take it out on me. Don’t touch her.”
Colt snickered, sounding completely deranged. “Oh, but the more it hurts you, the more fun I have. I want you to watch as I destroy the only thing you care about.”
He reached out and pressed the razor–sharp tip of his claw against the soft skin of my cheek.
The cold, sharp sensation made my skin crawl. I knew he wasn’t bluffing; any second, he was going to slice me open.
Kade’s composed facade shattered instantly. His voice cracked as he roared, “Stop!”
Colt paused, glancing over at Kade with sadistic amusement. “What’s the matter? Does that bother you? Then get on your knees and beg.
“I know how strong you are. I’ve never been able to beat you, not since we were kids. But this time, your luck ran out. Didn’t you notice anything strange when you walked in?”
Colt burst into laughter as he spoke. “I sprayed this whole place with a potion I got from a witch. It suppresses wolf energy. It’s already working on both of you. No matter how strong you think you are, you’re powerless against me now.”
So that was it.
That explained the faint, chemical scent in the air that I hadn’t been able to place earlier.
Colt was nothing but a coward.
But if the potion worked on him, Kade was in

grave danger.
I saw Kade clench his fists, his glowing eyes locked on Colt. Then, without a second of hesitation, he dropped to one knee.
His voice was low and rough as gravel. “I’m begging you. Let her go.”
Seeing him on his knees like that, my eyes went wide with shock and my heart felt like it was being ripped in half.
Kade was the embodiment of pride. Seeing him degrade himself for someone like Colt was unbearable.
Colt’s eyes were filled with a twisted sense of victory. “That’s not enough. You want me to let her go? Then you have to do exactly what I say.”
He pulled his claw away from my face and let out a cold, cruel laugh. “I’ll release her if you cut off one of your own fingers. Right now. Otherwise, I’m going to crush Nira’s hand.”
