Chapter 218 The Truth in the File

Kade’s POV:

Briar let out a sigh. “Mr. Howell, the one who took Nira away was Vera.”

I froze for a moment before realization hit me–I knew exactly who Vera was.

She was one of Nira’s most trusted people and the manager of Emberhall Atelier.

After a brief pause, Briar continued, “After Nira collapsed, Vera suddenly showed up with a group of people. She said Nira had arranged everything beforehand. She was there to take her away for treatment.”

Zane picked up where he left off. “Vera said the poison in Nira’s body isn’t immediately fatal. But if she wants to remove it completely, she has to see her master. And…” He hesitated. “She also said Nira’s adoptive dad is the only person who can save her

The knot in my chest loosened slightly, but only a little. I knew Nira had a mysterious adoptive dad.

He was a medical genius who rarely showed himself to the world. Finding him would be like searching for a ghost.

I frowned, then took the folder.

“The things Mrs. Mary Howell did didn’t make sense to her. She wanted answers,” Vera continued.

As soon as I opened the file, a photograph slipped out.

I bent down and picked it up. The moment I saw the picture, my heart nearly stopped.

It was a teenage boy, no more than seventeen or eighteen, dressed in a high school uniform.

But that wasn’t what shocked me. It was his face. He looked almost identical to Mom.

I slowly looked up. My voice was unsteady. “This boy…”

Vera modded. “Our investigation found that your mom has been regularly visiting a luxury mansion near the southwest border of the Pack Alliance for over a decade. Officially, the owner is one of her close friends. At first, nothing seemed unusual.”

She paused, then continued, “But that friend hasn’t held a job in over ten years. Yet she lives in a mansion and spends enormous amounts of money. That raised suspicions. So we kept digging.”

A chill ran down my spine. Without hesitation, I pulled the documents out of the folder. Page after page was filled with bank records, each one showing massive transfers. All flowed into the account belonging to the boy’s mom. The dates stretched back years. The amounts were staggering. Every transaction was clearly documented.

The truth written on those pages felt like shards of glass stabbing into my eyes.

My fists clenched hard. It took everything I had not to let Odin Joose and destroy something.

Then Vera handed me the final report. “It’s a DNA test.” She looked at me quietly. “Between your mom and that boy.”

For a moment, I couldn’t breathe. Then a bitter laugh escaped me. “So that’s it,”
