Nira gripped her water glass so tightly her knuckles turned white.
Dropping her gaze, her long lashes cast a shadow over her face. “It’s nothing. I’m just a little tired.”
I stared at her downcast eyes, a pang of disappointment cutting through me.
ckly forced a smile and reached over to pull the blanket up around her shoulders. “Get some rest then. I’ll be right here!”
d her back to me and let out a soft sigh.
until her breathing evened out and I knew she was asleep before leaving her side to head over to Damian’s room.
walked in, Damian was trying to use his injured hand to eat with a fork.
nurse stood by, frantic. “Damian, your hand hasn’t healed yet, you really shouldn’t-”
strode over, snatched the fork right out of his hand, and snapped, “Your hand is practically ruined. What are you trying to prove?”
Damian raised an eyebrow at me and let out a cold laugh. “Since when do you care so much, Kade?”
Ignoring the provocation, I picked up the plate, stabbed a piece of meat, and held it to his mouth. “Eat.”
Damian turned his head away. “I don’t need your-”
“You’re starving, stop being a martyr,” I interrupted, cutting him off with an impatient sneer.
He glared at me, hesitated for a second, but finally opened his mouth and took the bite. “Tastes awful.”
“Then don’t eat it,” I muttered, already stabbing another piece and shoving it toward his face. “If you hadn’t protected Nira, do you honestly think the heir to the Alpha King title would be sitting here feeding you?”
Damian’s chewing slowed, and he stared at me in silence.
“How is Nira?” he asked suddenly.
My grip
fell asleep,” I replied casually.
arched an eyebrow, his expression turning mocking. “What do you plan to do about Qlivia? or your old flame and can’t bring yourself to hurt her?”
I shot him a warning glare. “Olivia and I were business partners, nothing more. There has never been
azed, Damian looked at me with loaded intent. “I’m not the one you need to tell that to.”
htened as his words hit home. Flashbacks of Nira’s evasive eyes rushed through my mind, and my heart clenched as if
an invisible fist.

I spun around and headed straight for the door. My hand gripped the doorknob, but hesitated for a few seconds before turning
back to face Damian.
Looking at him, knowing how he felt about Nira, a storm of complex emotions surged inside me. But I forced them down and spoke from the heart. “Thank you.”
My gratitude clearly caught Damian off guard.
The corner of his mouth twitched into a bitter, self–deprecating smirk. “I did it for Nira, not you.”
I didn’t rise to the bait. I just gave him one last look, then turned and walked out.
Damian’s POV
The moment the hospital door clicked shut, the carefree smirk melted off my face.
Looking down at my heavily bandaged hand, I let out a bitter, self–deprecating laugh.
I had always been a ruthless bastard who did whatever it took to get what he wanted. Yet here I was, playing the saint, helping my romantic rival clear up a misunderstanding with the woman I loved.
I was losing my mind.
If I had just met my fated mate earlier, would I have ever fallen for Nira in the first place?
Sighing at the sheer helplessness of it all, I turned my gaze toward the window.
“Damian, would you like me to…” the nurse offered tentatively.
“Get out,” I cut him off.
Right now, I just wanted some peace and quiet.
Only after the room fell completely silent did I finally let my guard down, allowing the exhaustion to show on iny face.
Thinking back to the sheer panic in Nira’s eyes that day, and how I hadn’t hesitated for a split second before smashing that glass cup against my own temple… even now, it felt surreal.
As a top–tier Lycan from an elite, powerful family, I had never even looked up to Kade, the heir to the Alpha King title. I was used to getting whatever I wanted.
