Nira’s POV
The moment the question left my mouth, Kade’s expression darkened.

He stood up and poured me a glass of water before finally speaking. “He’s recovering well. The doctor said his wolf spirit is incredibly resilient, so there’s no permanent damage. He’the discharged in a few days”
I let out a breath I didn’t realize I’ve been holding. Looking out the window to avoid his gaze, I tried to explain. “He only got hurt because he was trying to save me…”
Before I could finish, Kade cut me off. “I know. You were both drugged that night. If Damian hadn’t fought to stay conscious, things could have ended terribly. You feel grateful to him. I feel exactly the same way,”
I didn’t push it any further. Taking the glass, I took a few slow sips of water. When I was done, he naturally reached over and took the cup from my hands.
Setting it down on the nightstand, Kade spoke as casually as if he were discussing the weather. “The Alpha of the Wildgust Pack announced this morning that Olivia has been stripped of her family name. Her younger sister, Emma Vance, has been named the new heir,”
Shock rippled through me. I snapped my head up. “Emma?”
I knew Emma was Olivia’s younger sister. Olivia had always been so brilliant that Emma was entirely overshadowed, left looking thoroughly average by comparison. Whenever high society talked about the Vance family of the Wildgust Pack, Olivia was always the first person anyone thought of.
“I remember she was never trained to be an Alpha heir,” I recalled aloud. “She studied art history and even hosted a gallery exhibition last year.”
The corner of Kade’s mouth twitched upward as he pulled up some files on his phone. “Emma is much more than just an art enthusiast.”
He showed me the screen, which displayed her recent resume. She had graduated from the prestigious Meridia School of Management, and during her time there, she had successfully managed several pack territories. Over the years, she has quietly been building her own network of loyal supporters.
My eyes widened in surprise. “She’s been…”
୮
“Biding her time,” Kade finished for me, tucking his phone away. “Unlike the flashy Olivia, Emma knows how to wait for the perfect moment.”
He shot me a meaningful look before continuing. “At the Wildgust Pack council meeting this morning, it only took her a ten–minute speech to win over every single elder and core executive.”
“She certainly is clever…” I trailed off as it suddenly clicked. Staring into Kade’s deep eyes, I realized what had happened. “You did this?”
He did this for me?
Kade’s voice was gentle, yet it carried an undeniable undercurrent of steel. “I simply presented the Wildgust Alpha with a more suitable alternative.”

He looked down, focus shifting as he began to meticulously peel an orange. “After all, having an heir implicated in criminal activity isn’t exactly great for a family’s reputation or a gack’s stability.”
“So you gave her a helping hand said thoughtfully.
* only handed her the key.” Kade held a slice of the peeled orange to my lips, a faint smile playing on his face. “Emma opened the door herself through years of careful planning.”
I parted my lips on instinct, the sweet, tart juice bursting across my tongue.
“She’s been waiting for this day for so long,” I murmured softly. “It looks like Olivia won’t be recovering from this.”
A heavy shadow passed over Kade’s eyes. “The most devastating revenge isn’t a sudden, unexpected blow. It’s the kind that festers through years of patient calculation.”
Suddenly, his tone shifted. “Just like…”
“Like what?” I asked naturally.
Kade locked eyes with me, reaching up to gently brush a stray drop of juice from the corner of my mouth with his thumb.
The sudden intimacy caught the breath in my throat, and a flush of heat rushed to my cheeks.
Kade’s POV
Seeing the panic in Nira’s eyes, a surge of amusement washed over me, and I couldn’t help but let a smirk tug at the corners of my lips.
To me, her fluster made her look like a startled fawn–so adorable it made my heart flutter. The fact that she was this shaken… did it mean she actually felt something for me?
Driven to test my theory, I leaned in even closer, close enough to count every flutter of her eyelashes.
“Nira,” I murmured, purposely dropping my voice to a seductive whisper. “Don’t you have anything you want to ask me?”
She instinctively tried to shrink back, nearly cracking her head against the wall. Fortunately, I was faster, slipping my hand behind her just in time to cushion the impact.
Feeling her ragged breathing only fueled my amusement. “Your heart is racing,” I teased. “What are you so nervous about?”
“I’m not…” she blurted out in denial, though she couldn’t stop the tips of her ears from flushing crimson.
I immediately caught her hand and pressed it against my chest, leaning down to whisper in her ear, “But my heart is beating fast,
too.”
Nira looked up, her gaze locking onto mine as if she could suddenly feel all of my tension and anxiety.
