Chapter 250 Is that Right?
Kade’s POV

The moment Nira finished kissing me, she turned on her heel and boited through the gates of the military base.
By the time I snapped out of it and tried to give chase, the guards at the entrance blocked my path. Their tone was respectful but firm. “Apologies, Alpha. This is a restricted military zone. No entry without authorization.”
All I could do was stand there, watching helplessly as Nira’s figure grew smaller and smaller in the distance.
I lingered at the gates, my fingers unconsciously drifting to the corner of my mouth. The soft, lingering sensation of her lips still seemed to brush against my skin. For a moment, I felt completely dazed. Had she really just kissed me, or was I losing my mind?
My mind went entirely blank–a rare occurrence for me–until a sharp gust of cold wind shook me awake. Nira had kissed me. And then she had immediately run away!
I closed my eyes in sheer frustration, cursing my own slow reflexes. To think that I, the prime heir to the Alpha King, a man who commanded battlefields and boardrooms without a single defeat, had frozen up like a clueless teenager. I had let her catch me off guard, steal a kiss, and get away scot–free..
Looking down at my hand, I noticed a trace of her lipstick on my fingers a faint, rosy pink. My heart hammered against my ribs, a wild, unprecedented rush of adrenaline surging through my chest.
She had kissed me first.
The realization filled me with absolute euphoria, though a split second later, I pressed my lips together in mock annoyance. How dare she just kiss me and run?
I turned back toward my car, but after only a couple of steps, I couldn’t help but look back at the base gates. Going a long stretch of time without seeing her was going to be pure torture. It made me want to speed up my ascension to Alpha King, just so I could use the ultimate authority of the crown to walk right in and find her.
The moment I got back to my office, I ordered Jett to buy every single lipstick available on the market. I was determined to track down the exact shade she had been wearing when she kissed me.
But that wasn’t enough. I needed a plan, and I soon came up with a way that might actually let me see her.
“Kade, what’s so urgent that you needed to see me?” Noah asked, looking entirely bewildered.
୮
Sitting across from him, I tapped my fingers casually against the desk, offering a flimsy excuse. “I just wanted to check on the training progress of the honor guard performing at my upcoming inauguration.”
Noah didn’t buy it for a second. A wry smile tugged at his lips. “You personally came all the way out here for a minor detail like that? I think you’re here for someone specific. Don’t waste your energy–Nira is cooped up in the lab and won’t be out anytime soon. You could visit eight hundred times, and it wouldn’t make a difference.”
Since he had called my bluff, I cut straight to the chase. “Then it’s perfect timing. I brought my personal guard with me. I’ll use this time to personally oversee their integration with the honor guard. I won’t tolerate a single mistake at my ascension ceremony.”
Noah raised an eyebrow. “Oh? Is that right?”
Seeing that he still wasn’t biting, I pulled a document from my briefcase and laid it on the table. “This system is worth a hundred

million. It’s been fully optimized specifically for military use”
“You clever bastard,” Noah laughed, finally giving in “Alright, you wiff. I can’t believe you played me like this?
And just like that, I got exactly what i wanted: access to the military research base.
Yet, even though the areas I was cleared to visit were separated from Nira’s lab by a single wall, the strict confidentiality of her project meant she remained entirely out of reach.
I stood in the corridor outside the laboratory, completely disheartened. Even though we were separated by a single wall, the woman who completely consumed my thoughts remained frustratingly out of reach.
I knew this was the absolute limit of Noah’s flexibility. Since I hadn’t officially ascended to Alpha King yet, we were essentially equal in rank, meaning I couldn’t just order him around.
“Well, Alpha, this plan is a bust,” Zane muttered, strolling over. He had tagged along under the guise of being part of my personal guard “How about I shift into my wolf form right now and dig a hole through this wall for you?”
I shot him a freezing glare. “Did you finish inspecting the honor guard’s training? Is that why you have time to lounge around here?”
