In Kade’s office, Emma set mercup down gracefully, a polite smile playing on her lips. Kade, I can’t thank you enough for your help
this time.”
Kade glanced at his watch, his tone indifferent. “You’re too polite, Emma. It was a mutually beneficial arrangement.”
“Olivia has been sent to a sanatorium by my father.” Emma pulled a document from her bag. “Here is the transfer agreement she signed for the land you wanted. She won’t be an eyesore for you anymore.”
Kade took the file and tossed it aside. “Impressive tactics.”
“Not compared to your strategic mastery.” Noticing Kade check the time for a second time, Emma immediately stood up and gave a slight nod. “I’ll let you get back to work, Alpha. If you need anything, just send forme.”
As the two of them walked out of the Howell Group building, Emma’s assistant couldn’t help but ask, “Emma, why didn’t you take this chance to get closer to Kade? There’s no one by his side right now…”
Emma stopped in her tracks and turned to look up at the towering Howell Group skyscraper, her gaze sharp and clear behind her glasses. “Why do you think Kade chose to work with me?”
She let out a soft laugh. “It’s because I’m clear–headed. I know exactly what to reach for and what to leave alone”
The assistant remained puzzled. “But he’s about to officially take over as the Alpha King. That position as the first Luna…”
Emma opened the car door, cutting him off. “Nira is the one he envisions as his mate.” She stepped into the car, her voice resolute. “Instead of chasing unrealistic dreams, I should focus on running the Wildgust Pack. My rightful place is as its next Alpha.”
As the car smoothly pulled away, Emma caught one last glimpse of the Howell Group building in the rearview mirror.
She knew perfectly well that some people were meant to be admired from afar, and a smart person always knew exactly where to draw the line.

Nira’s POV
Using the excuse that I was sick and needed to be looked after, Kade brought me to the Howell estate.
Julie was beaming as she took my luggage, the corners of her eyes crinkling with joy. “Don’t you worry about a thing, Nira. Just make yourself at home. Nursing people back to health is what I do best.”
I followed Julie upstairs to say a quick hello to Edith before heading to the room Julie had prepared for me to get some rest.
That very afternoon, Kade invited Zane, Tessa, and Briar over to throw a party. I knew he had only gathered everyone to cheer he up, and I felt deeply grateful. Once everyone arrived, the massive Howell estate gradually came to life.
“Well, well,” Zane said with an exaggerated air the moment he walked in. “It’s a rare treat to have the Alpha hosting a party himself.”
Tessa came bouncing over and threw her arms around me. “Nira! I heard you were hurt. I was so worried!” Then, she suddenly lowered her voice. “That Olivia got stripped of her inheritance by her younger sister, and the Vance family forced her into a sanatorium. She’s locked away.” She glanced over at Kade. “Zane says Kade was the one behind it all.”

“I know, I said, before filling Tessa in on what had happened between Kade and Oma
Tessa was instantly indignant “That Olivia is awful she deliberately minted you and almost made you misunderstand the Alph Her eyes darted around mischievously, a playful grin spreading arrows her face. “So, does this mean you and the Alpha are finally getting together?”
“Not yet,” I replied honestly
“Exactly, you need to make him work for it. I completely support you, Tessa said, nodding ad if she understood me perfectly.
But i wasn’t trying to test him. It was just that I was still facing so many complicafos–I hadn’t found my biological parents yet, Lyra’s condition was unstable, I couldn’t tell who my fated mate actually was, and there was still danger lurking in the shadows.
Before I could explain, my phone rang. It was Noah. Hearing the sheer urgency in his voice as he asked for backup, I agreed immediately. “Alright, I’ll be right there.”

Hanging up, I turned to Kade and apologetically told him that I wouldn’t be able to stay at his place anymore. Showing no sign of annoyance whatsoever, Kade stood up right away. “I’ll drive you.”
Given the urgency of the situation, I didn’t refuse, and we set off immediately. Based on what Noah had described on the phone, I knew this was going to be tricky, and I would likely need to stay with the unit for a while.
