With Kade’s scent filling the room, Lyra was growing wilder by the second. Terrified of losing contrat. I hurried upstairs after Tessa

Tessa pushed me down onto a chair and loomed over me, staring intently. “Alright, Niza, spill. What is going on between you and the Alpha?”

Seeing how quickly Kade had chased after me today, I felt surprisingly calm. “Exactly what you think,” I smiled.

“Oh my god!” Tessa shrieked. “Are you guys… are you mates?!”

I shook my head. “Not yet.”

A look of pure disappointment washed over her face. She squeezed onto the chair next to me, practically vibrating with curiosity. “You’re killing me! How far along are you two, then?”

I leaned in and whispered a few words in her ear.

“What?!” Tessa screamed, instantly clapping a hand over her mouth. “You kissed Kade? When? Where? How did he react?”

Remembering how Kade had frozen on the spot that day, I couldn’t help but chuckle. “Right outside the military base. He completely blanked out.”

“Holy crap!” Tessa’s wolf ears popped out in excitement as she started jumping and spinning around the room. “So Kade came here to hunt you down today? This is insane! I love a good cat–and–mouse chase!”

She suddenly stopped and looked at me with dead seriousness. Nira, listen to me. I know he’s high–ranking and about to become the Alpha King, but you are a catch, too. Do not make it easy for him!”

I raised an eyebrow, amused. “Oh?”

“Seriously,” Tessa said, leaning in close and lowering her voice. “Zane told me that Kade has gotten everything he’s ever wanted on a silver platter since he was a kid. You know how men are–if it’s too easy, they don’t cherish it.”

I nodded slowly.

Truth be told, I had only kissed him because the impulse struck me, and I hadn’t actually thought about what to do next. That was why I had fled straight to Tessa’s the second I left the lab. i just hadn’t expected Kade to track me down so fast.

Still, Tessa’s worries were unnecessary. I hadn’t found my biological parents yet, the hidden dangers around me hadn’t been resolved, and I wasn’t even certain who my fated mate was. Kade and I had a very long road ahead of us.

Letting out a soft sigh, I dropped the subject and made an excuse to head back downstairs with Tessa.

The moment we reached the ground floor, I spotted Kade completely absorbed in a game of chess with William. As if sensing my presence, his head suddenly snapped in my direction. At that exact moment, the chess piece in his hand clattered down onto a

disastrous square.

“Checkmate!” William roared with laughter. “Kade, my boy, your head is completely in the clouds. What are you thinking about?”

Kade didn’t say a word. His intense gaze remained locked onto me, completely indifferent to the game he had just lost,

Meeting his eyes, I gave him a slightly embarrassed glare. He just smiled back, entirely unbothered. The sheer charm of it nearly made my heart leap out oLmy chest, forcing me to quickly look away.

At dinner, Kade naturally took the seat right next to me.

As the maids brought out a succession of exquisite dishes, one of them announced, “Kade specifically asked us to art this thick cut filet mignon with red wine reduction. He mentioned it’s Nira’s favorite“.

Everyone instantly looked back and forth between Kade and me, their eyes full of playful amusement. I gave Kade another sharp. embarrassed glare under the table, but he just kept smiling, entirely unbothered.

Seeing this, William chuckled and stroked his beard. “Alright, alright, let’s eat!” He gave the butler a quick nod. “Go fetch that bottle of DRC La Tâche from my private collection. Today is a celebration!”

Completely unfazed by everyone’s teasing looks, Kade gracefully reached over, putted my plate toward him, and cut the steak into perfect pieces before sliding it back in front of me.

“I can do it myself,” I protested in a low voice.

“Your hand is injured,” Kade said without looking up, his tone casual yet leaving no room for argument. “The cut from the lab last time hasn’t fully healed yet.”

I hadn’t expected him to know about that.

Susan and William exchanged a knowing look, then quietly glanced at us. Feeling self–conscious, I looked away.

After dinner, we all gathered in the living room to chat. Tessa took my hand and turned to William. “Grandpa, I want to invite Nira to stay with us for a few days. She can help you look after your health, too.”

William glanced at Kade and stroked his beard, about to answer/when Kade suddenly spoke up. “William, may I borrow your study? I have a matter to discuss with Nira in private.”
