Nira’s POV
But just as I was on the verge of losing my footing, Kade suddenly straightened up and stepped back, creating space between us. His abrupt withdrawal caught me completely off guard. My face was still flushed, and I exhaled a few times sharply, trying to catch my breath.
With his scent fading, Lyra grew even more frantic inside me. This time, her reaction to him was unprecedentedly violent, catching me completely off guard.
Could Kade actually be my fated mate?
Unfortunately, Lyra’s condition still hadn’t fully stabilized, making it impossible to know for sure.
Lost in my thoughts, I didn’t notice Kade turning around until he pulled a stack of documents from his bag and handed them to me. “Take a look at this.”
I blinked, freezing for a moment before taking the file and flipping it open. As I scanned the pages, my brow furrowed. “Collins Group Pharmaceuticals… Dr. Beyond?”
1 quickly skimmed the rest of the file as realization dawned on me. “They’re copying my clinical protocols?”
“It’s worse than that,” Kade said, stepping closer, his voice dropping low. “They plan to have Dr. Beyond publicly ‘cure‘ a terminally ill patient at next month’s medical summit, while simultaneously announcing the launch of their newly developed drug.”
My hands clenched into tight fists, and my voice turned cold. “Have you found out who’s actually behind this?”
Kade shook his head, his expression grim. “Not yet. Whoever it is has buried themselves deep. All the leads go cold past a certain point.”
I let out a harsh laugh. “Well, if they’re coming after me, they can’t hide forever. Sooner or later, they’ll slip up.”
Suddenly, a thought flashed through my mind, making my chest tighten. Could the people behind this be the same ones who tore me away from my biological parents all those years ago?
A wave of intense emotions surged inside me, and my breathing grew shallow. Three years ago, I had set a trap specifically to lure
r this person out, and now I finally had a lead.
No wonder Lyra had been putting her guard up lately, suddenly shifting into battle–ready mode whenever I was alone. Someone must have been tailing me for a while now.
My fingers turned white as I gripped the documents tightly.
Noticing my growing distress, Kade stepped in and gently placed his hands on my shoulders. “Take a breath,” he said, his voice warm, soothing comfort. “No matter who’s pulling the strings, I’m going to help you uncover the truth. We’ll take it one step at a time, and we will find them.”
It was clear Kade had come to the same conclusion.
I looked up at him, my mind a chaotic blur of anger and frustration, but above all, sheer determination. “Kade, I have to drag them. into the light. I’m going to make them pay for everything my parents and I have suffered all these years.”

bit my lower lip, desperately wanting to hunt these people down right this second and let Lyra tear them to pieces.

But Kade’s voice slowly brought me back to reality–Steady and unwavering, he promised, “I know. I’ll be right there with you.”
The simple phrase brought a sudden sting to my eyes, striking a deep chord within me.
When Kade and I finally walked out of the study, Tessa took one look at my red–rimmed eyes and immediately assumed he had done something to me. Forgetting all about pack hierarchy and ranks, she lunged forward to grab my arm and glared defensively at Kade. “Nira, what happened? Are you okay?”
Realizing she had completely misread the situation, I quickly reassured her, “I’m fine, really.”
Kade turned to William and offered a polite nod. “William, thank you for having me today. I have some urgent fratters to attend to. so I’ll take my leave.”
“Of course,” William replied, stroking his beard as he glanced meaningfully between Kade and me. “Come back and visit anytime, Kade.‘
“I will,” Kade said courteously, though his eyes drifted right back to me. “Nira rarely gets a break, so let her enjoy herself at the estate for a few days.” A fond, teasing smile played on his lips as he added, “Once you’ve had your fun, I’ll come pick you up.”
Tessa gave me a frantic nudge with her elbow before turning to Kade with a respectful smile. “Don’t worry, Alpha! I’ll make sure Nira is perfectly taken care of!”
Kade’s POV
I took one last look at Nira, nodded, and turned to leave the Duvall house.
When I first showed up at the military base, only to find her gone, and heard she had fled here, I hadn’t hesitated for a second. I chased right after her. All I could think about was dragging her back to demand an explanation for that kiss, determined to get a straight answer out of her once and for all.
But the moment I actually got to the Duvalls‘ and saw her, my mindset shifted.
I couldn’t bear to put her in a difficult position. I’m willing to give her time, and I gladly wait until she’s ready to tell me herself that she wants to reject the world and become my mate. I’m impatient, yes, but I know\ can’t rush this.
Everything happens on Nira’s terms.
Nira’s POV
After Kade left, the details he had shared about Dr. Beyond kept weighing on my mind, so I immediately called Vera.
The information she provided practically mirrored everything Kade had told me.
“Nira, Silas and his team have already made it down the mountain and are settled in,” Vera said. “Should I contact them and have them look into it?”
