Chapter 300 Skin Preparation for a New Face

Nira’s POV:

They moved me without warning into a lavish suite with floortoceiling windows that looked out over the ocean.

The woman even sent a doctor to tend to my injuries, paying extra attention to the scars on my

faceI noticed that right away, though I couldn’t figure out why.

Two bulky female werewolves were assigned to guard me around the clock. They never left my side.

Their accents were unusual, and their pheromones carried a scent I’d never smelled before. That only confirmed what I’d suspectedthese were mutated wolves from overseas.

In the morning, they brought in buckets of bathwater again. Only this time, it wasn’t waterit was milk.

Ever since I’d been moved here, they’d forced me to soak in a milk bath for an hour each day. The two women poured the milk into the tub, muttering between themselves.

The heavier one grumbled, We never even get to drink this stuff, and here she is bathing in it. What a waste.

The thinner one shot a nervous glance my way and lowered her voice. You didn’t hear? Half the team sent out for milk yesterday didn’t make it back

After that, they both looked over at me in the tub with uneasy expressions.

I kept my head down and pretended not to hear.

The larger woman reached out suddenly and touched my arm, then jerked her hand back like she’d been burned. So softlike a baby’s skin.”

The thinner one gave a tense laugh. The boss even ordered roses specially… just for her baths.

Footsteps echoed outside the door, and they went quiet instantly.

After the bath, I sat alone in front of the mirror. I lifted my hand and studied my skin, now even softer than before, and let my thoughts drift.

What were they planning to use my skin for?

One thing was clearthat woman wasn’t moisturizing my skin out of kindness.

Late that night, a piercing scream jolted me awake. Lyra had already caught the scent of blood in the air.

My chest tightened. I crept barefoot to the window and saw dark figures dragging a bloody, naked body across the courtyard in the moonlight.

A dark red trail stained the stone path behind them.

I held my breath, my pupils shrinkingthe person’s skin was a sickly, deathly white, almost likeit had been peeled clean off.

Another failure, one of the guards muttered under his breath. That’s the third one this week.”

A cold woman’s voice cut through the shadows. Useless! Can’t even prep the skin properly. The scalpel in her hand glinted under the moon. Throw him to the sharks.”

It was brutal. Sickening. My fingers dug into the windowsill.

And then it hit methe real purpose of the milk baths, all that careful skincare.

She wasn’t nourishing my skin. She was preparing it.

In the distance came the splash of water from the shark pool, followed by the gruesome sound of tearing flesh.

I slowly backed into the darkness, my hand rising unconsciously to touch my cheek.

I had to regain my strengthfast. Or the next body dragged out there would be mine.

The next day, the same two women returned.

They pushed me into the tub again. Steam rose from the milk mixed with rose oil, and my skin flushed pink from the heat.

They worked with mechanical precision, brushing my back with soft bristles as if I were some piece of art about to be auctioned off.

The boss is coming to check tonight, the thin woman whispered, tension lining her voice,

After they finished, they left.

Some time later, the door opened again.

The woman in the red dress entered slowly, her silver mask glowing coldly in the candlelight.

She wasn’t especially large, and I couldn’t catch even a trace of wolf scent on herbut Lyra was on full alert anyway.

When her eyes met mine, she walked over and reached out. Her cold fingers stroked my face, tracing every curve as if testing how smooth my skin was.
