Chapter 301 Confronting the Creator

Nira’s POV:

Youyou’re completely out of your mind!

I was so livid that I almost let Lyra seize control right then and there to rip her throat out. Fighting the urge with everything I had, I whiteknuckled the edge of the bathtub and glared up at her.

Yes! That’s exactly itHer voice climbed with twisted excitement, her eyes gleaming behind the mask with a sick, fanatical light. I want to see that fearI want to taste your despair

She suddenly clamped a cold, vicelike grip onto my chin. Once the surgery is a success, I’ll make sure you watch Janice parading around in your faceand sliding into Kade’s bed.”

My whole body shook, and tears streamed down my cheeksprecisely the reaction she was fishing for.

The woman straightened up, looking satisfied, the sharp click of her heels keeping a cheerful rhythm against the tile floor as she walked away.

The instant the heavy door clicked shut, I dropped the act. Calmly, I wiped the tears from my face.

Every sob, every tremble had been a performanceplaying the part of the weak, fragile human without a wolf spiritfor her benefit. If she believed I was helpless, she’d lower her guard, and I could execute my plan without a hitch.

A short while later, I was escorted to a brightly lit treatment room.

She was already there waiting. Without a word, she ordered me to lie down on the exam table and began slathering a pale green ointment all over my skin. The smell was pungent and medicinalcrushed herbs mixed with a coppery tang, like blood.

Don’t move,” she warned, her nails tracing my collarbone. This is an ancient formula I went through hell to get my hands on. It’s specially designed to feed and prep the skin.

I kept up the facade of weakness. When she turned her back to grab another jar from the counter, I swiftly palmed one of the needles from the instrument tray.

After the treatment, I was marched back to my room. A milk bath was waiting for mehotter

with fresh rose petals scattered across the surface. As I lowered myself into the water, I could feel my skin heating up, every pore opening to absorb the medicinal infusion.

The silent maid poured an amber liquid into the tub, turning the water into a soft, pearlesc swirl.

Once the soak was done, while the two maids were busy draining the tub, I slipped off my robe. My skin was positively glowing under the meticulous care, but I could feel the slow, stubborn crawl of the poison working through my veins beneath the surface.

I took out the concealed needle and, facing the mirror, carefully inserted it into the pressure point at the base of my neck. The moment the tip pierced my skin, a single drop of dark bloc slid down my spine.

Third oneI muttered through the hair tie clenched between my teeth, then moved the needle to the inner pulse point of my wrist. Muscle memory guided my handsthis was an ancient acupuncture technique my foster father, Alexander Lawson, had taught me, specifically used to neutralize foreign toxins.

Heavy footsteps echoed in the hallway outside. I yanked the needle out just in time.

By the time the maids returned, I was already leaning weaklyagainst the headboard. At the bottom of the crystal vase on the dresser, a few bloodstained rose petals had settled quietly, going completely unnoticed.

Late into the night, when the mansion was dead silent, I opened my eyes and pieced together everything I’d managed to overhear from that woman lately.

She was obsessively in love with a man named Killian Hawke, and she hated a woman named Natalie Hudson with the same burning intensity.

The first time she laid eyes on me, she’d remarked on how much I looked like her.

So, I made a bold guessthe Natalie she hated so fiercely was most likely my biological mother. And Killianmaybe he was my father.

I sketched out the twisted love triangle in my mind: Killian and Natalie had likely been lovers, and the masked woman, driven by pure jealousy, had done everything in her power to replace Natalie.

I needed to find a way to confirm it.

As my thoughts raced, my fingers absently toyed with the needle, and a plan began to take shape.

Soon enough, the woman came back to apply the ointment again.

She was in a strangely good mood today, dipping her fingertips into a pale gold balm and

smoothing it gently over my cheeks, humming a melody under her breath.

You know?she said suddenly, her voice sickly sweet. Killian loves this scent the mostHe always used to say that Natalie carried this cool, natural fragrance that drove him and his wol wild…”

I kept my eyes shut, letting her do as she pleased. Then, at the moment she least expected it, I spoke flatly into the silence.

You’ll never replace my mother, Natalie, in Killian’s heart.

The air in the room went still.
