Nira’s POV:
My chest tightened, but I kept my expression blank and kept pushing her buttons. “They hav each other. And you? You’ll never mean anything to Killian.”
The woman released me and stumbled back, letting out a wild, broken laugh. “Soon… I’ll have your face, your skin… Killian will look at me, touch me, love me… And Natalie? She’ll just have to sit there and watch!”
She spun around and rushed out, her steps unsteady and frantic, like she was running from something. The door slammed shut behind her. I let out a slow, shaky breath, my hands trembling slightly.
My parents were alive–that much was clear–but it didn’t sound like they were doing well.
I had to get out. Fast.
Kade’s POV:
The night was thick and dark. Sea air, heavy with the smell of salt and decay, swept across the deck, doing nothing to improve my mood.
Just the thought of Nira in danger–and me stuck here, still miles away–was enough to make me want to let Odin take over and rip everything in sight to shreds.
I stood at the bow of the speedboat, my grip on the railing so tight I could feel the metal groaning under my fingers.
“Faster!” My voice came out rougher than I intended.
Noah stood nearby, eyes fixed on the blinking red dot of the tracker, his brow deeply furrowed. “We’re already maxed out. Nira’s signal is holding steady, which means she’s safe for
now.”
“Safe?” I let out a harsh, bitter laugh, the frustration in my chest boiling over. “That place is crawling with psychos. She’s been gone three days, Noah. Three days.”
I couldn’t shake the last look Nira gave me when Janice dragged her onto that boat–calm, resolved, like she’d seen it all coming.

She could have fought. But she chose to go quietly, all to draw out the bastard pulling the strings.
“She’ll be okay,” Noah said quietly. “Nira’s sharper than you give her credit for.”
“Sharp?” I couldn’t hold back the rage. My claws slid out and I crushed the glass in my hand. Shards dug into my palm, but I barely felt it. “She’s sharp, but she’s still human–no wolf spir to back her up! And that woman who took her is a complete lunatic!
“You heard what intel said. She turned on our kind years ago. Sold her soul to the witches, feeds on her own without blinking, runs organs on the black market… She doesn’t give a damn about anyone’s life.”
Just imagining what Nira might be going through made my lungs seize.
I turned and drove my fist into the cabin wall.
Then I stormed into the cockpit and snarled at the pilot, “Push it. I don’t care how–just get us there.”
The engine roared as the boat cut through the waves. I stared at the dim glow of land in the distance, fists clenched so hard my knuckles ached.
Hang on, Nira. Just hang on.

Nira’s POV:
After I’d pissed off that psycho and she’d stormed out, I tossed and turned, sleep completely out of reach. Eventually, I gave up and got out of bed.
I stood by the window, watching the choppy sea, but my mind wouldn’t settle.
I’d thrown myself into danger again. Kade was probably furious.
Hell, he was probably worried sick.
Just as I was thinking about him, I caught muffled voices from the hallway.
I crept to the door and pressed my ear against the cool wood.
“Got a problem. Someone hit our shipment. Boss is taking a crew out tomorrow to deal with
it.”

“Who’s stupid enough to mess with our stuff?”
“Who else? It’s the…” Their voices faded as they moved away.
The guards outside were thinning out. My pulse jumped. This was it—my chance.
I hurried back to the bed and pulled out the three thin needles I’d hidden under the mattress.
Over the last few days, I’d been using acupuncture to push some of the toxins out of my system. I’d only recovered maybe forty percent of my strength, but it was enough to tap into Lyra’s essence and make a real break for it.
I waited, listening. Sure enough, not long after, I heard the rumble of engines and the hurried footsteps of a group moving out.
She’d left with most of her men.
I didn’t move right away. I waited until well past midnight.
Then I clutched my stomach and let out a low, pained groan, curling up on the floor near the door.
“Ahhh… stomach… it’s killing me!” I made my voice weak and thumped the door lightly. “Help… somebody… please…”
The guard outside cursed under his breath, but finally shoved the door open. “What now-
He didn’t get to finish. In one fluid motion, I sprang up, my claws extending, and locked my hand around his throat.
