Chapter 317 Traitors

Nira’s POV:

“Desmond, you’re alive!”

On the other end of the phone, Desmond’s father, Edmund, was over the moon. “Desmond, where the hell are you right now? Your grandpa heard you were in some serious trouble and got so worried that he fell sick. His sondition’s not looking good!”

Desmond’s face went white as a sheet. “Grandpa’s sick? How the heck did that happen?”

He grabbed the phone tightly, his voice trembling. “Dad, I’m at Oscar’s private mansion right now. Richard’s a real scumbag! He might be the one behind what happened to me. You gotta be careful of him!”

Edmund’s voice turned serious. “Richard? He came to the house and told us you’d been killed by some kidnappers. Your grandpa passed out when he heard the news. Richard brought the cops in, saying they were gonna investigate your death…”

“Dad, don’t believe a word he says. I’m coming home right away.” Desmond hung up in a hurry.

After hearing what he said on the phone, I started to get nervous too. “Is something wrong?”

Desmond clenched the phone in his hand, his voice rough. “My grandfather’s sick. I gotta get home right now…

Suddenly, Lyra picked up a dangerous vibe in the air.

I was about to say something, but Kade obviously felt it too..

His eyes turned sharp as a knife. He quickly moved to the window and pulled the curtain aside a little bit, then said coldly, “Too late. The whole place is surrounded by cop cars!”

I rushed over to the window and looked out. Sure enough, there were several cop cars parked quietly around the mansion. A dozen cops all decked out in full gear got out, and at the front was Richard.

He was wearing a suit, and his blood–red wolf eyes were cold and mean. The cop next to him was quietly telling him something

“That bastard found us so fast! I’ll go talk to him!” Oscar gritted his teeth and turned to head out.

Desmond quickly rushed over and stopped him. “Don’t forget you’re an Alpha heir. We can’t go head–to–head with them–they’re the cops. I’ll go out and clear things up!”

Before anyone could stop him, Desmond pushed the window open and stepped outside.

I wanted to hold him back, but it was too late. Kade and I quickly pressed ourselves against the wall and moved to stand beside him, ready to protect him if anything went wrong.

“Richard!” Desmond stood on the steps and shouted, “What the hell are you up to?”

Richard saw Desmond alive, and his pupils shrank big time. But he quickly put on a fake smile. “Mr. Hudson? What a shock… Weren’t you supposed to be dead?”

He turned to the cop next to him and said, “Looks like someone’s trying to pass themselves off as the Hudson family’s son. Probably up to no good.”

“That’s a load of crap!” Oscar stormed out and cursed at him “You’re lying through your teeth!”

Richard didn’t even flinch. He slowly pulled out a document and waved it around, then announced loudly, “According to the police investigation, Desmond died of poisoning. His body’s been confirmed.

Richard’s smile disappeared. Suddenly he raised his hand and gave the order. “If they resist, shoot on sight!”

“Bang-!” A gunshot rang out. Kade tackled Desmond to the ground just in time. The bullet grazed his shoulder, leaving a bloody

mark.

I was furious. I just wanted to let Lyra take over and rip Richard to shreds.

But there were too many of them, and they were all armed.

“They’ve got snipers!” Oscar cursed as he fired back, but their firepower was way too strong. The four of us were forced back inside the house.

Richard’s voice came through the loudspeaker. “The kidnappers are refusing to surrender and are armed and shooting at the officers. No mercy!”

Desmond clutched his bleeding shoulder, with rage burning in his eyes. “That bastard wants me dead too, so there’s no one left to testify against him.”

Just when things looked really hopeless, the sound of engines roared in the distance, followed by heavy gunfire!

I carefully peeked out and saw several of Richard’s men getting taken down out of nowhere.

Oscar came up beside me and shouted in surprise, “It’s the military!”

Several armored military vehicles broke through the encirclement. A serious–looking middle–aged man jumped down from the lead vehicle–it was Edmund.

When Richard saw the armored vehicles charging in, his face went pale as a ghost.

And when he realized that not only Edmund but also Mark Williams, Meridia’s Chief Gamma in full military uniform, was getting out of the first vehicle, he clearly started to panic.

He forced a smile and hurried over. “Mr. Williams! Mr. Hudson! Great timing. I got word that the three kidnappers holding Mr. Hudson are inside-”
