Just then, the front door of the villa swung open, and Desmond walked out, one hand pressed fightly against his injured shoulder
“Dad! Mr. Williams!”
Mark strode over immediately, examined Desmond’s wound closely, then turned to his adjutant. “Get a field medic here, now”
His sharp, wolf–like eyes then narrowed at Richard. “Richard, you’d better have a damn good explanation for this.”
Richard lowered his head respectfully. “Mr. Williams, we were in the middle of apprehending the suspects. i deeply regret that Mr. Desmond Hudson was caught in the crossfire.”
Richard always had a ready excuse for everything. Even Mark couldn’t touch him without solid evidence.
Seizing the moment, Kade, Oscar, and I stepped out of the villa as well.
Edmund pointed toward us and asked Richard, “So, can I take them with me now?”
Richard glanced our way, his expression unreadable. “Of course. Since Mr. Desmond Hudson is vouching for them, they’re free to go.”
Desmond looked like he wanted to say more, but a sharp look from Edmund silenced him.
“Let’s move,” Edmund said, waving for us to follow.
As we passed Richard, his cold, venomous gaze locked onto me–like a snake sizing up its prey.
A calculating glint flashed in his eyes, sending a chill down my spine, and the corner of his mouth twitched into the faintest hint of
a sneer.
Feeling the threat, Lyra stirred with rage inside me.
At the same moment, Kade shifted almost imperceptibly and stepped squarely in front of me, his broad shoulders forming an unbreachable wall between Richard and me.
Their eyes clashed in midair, tension crackling between them.
Kade’s gaze turned icy, a dangerous swirl of killing intent darkening his deep–set eyes.
The overwhelming presence of an Ipha King’s heir radiated from him unconsciously, and Richard visibly flinched, taking two stumbling steps backward.
After one last warning glare at Richard, Kade turned his attention back to me, letting the murderous aura dissipate.
Richard stood frozen in place, his face pale as a sheet, as if he’d just witnessed something terrifying.
“Let’s go,” Kade said flatly, without another glance in Richard’s direction. He took my hand firmly, keeping me close as we walked toward the waiting military transport.
His grip felt tighter than usual.

Sensing he was still on edge, I gave his hand a gentle, reassuring squeeze.

Third–Person POV:
It wasn’t until the military vehicle had pulled away that Richard finally snapped back to reality.
He realized his hands were trembling uncontrollably, and the shirt beneath his suit jacket was soaked through with cold sweat.
Facing that unnaturally tall, imposing man… even his own wolf had felt a primal fear.
“Sir? Are you all right?” one of his officers asked cautiously.
Richard shoved the man’s hand away roughly and snarled, “I want a full background check on that man! Find out who he really is- everything!”
Meanwhile, inside the retreating transport, Kade watched the police cars shrink in the side mirror, his eyes still cold and hard.
If he didn’t have to worry about exposing Odin’s presence here in Meridia, he would have torn out Richard’s throat right then and
there.
Daring to lay a hand on Nira… the man had a death wish.
He filed the grudge away mentally. Richard was someone he would deal with personally–sooner or later.
Under the cover of darkness, the convoy of military jeeps sped toward Hudson Manor.
Mark had assigned a squad of special forces to escort us the entire way. As for Richard, without concrete evidence, all they could do was issue a formal reprimand.

Nira’s POV:
The vehicles raced down the winding road, putting more and more distance between us and Richard’s crew. Finally, I allowed myself to relax a little.
Beside me, Desmond sat quietly, his injured shoulder bandaged, staring anxiously out the window.
