I glanced into the car briefly before turning back to Tessa and Derrick. “You guys head out first.”
Tessa peeked inside, curiosity flickering across her face, but she didn’t ask anything. “Alright. See you at school in a couple days?”
“Yeah.” I said with a small nod.
Once they left, I stepped into the car.
As expected, Kade was sitting inside, dressed in a sharply tailored suit, his presence carrying the quiet authority of the alpha king’s heir.
His gaze moved over me, deliberate and assessing. “Are you hurt anywhere?”
I didn’t answer right away. Instead, I pressed my thumb against the hidden mechanism on my ring. A thin needle slid out with a faint glint before retracting again. I repeated the motion absently.
Kade fell silent for a moment before speaking again, his voice lower this time. “I’m sorry. You got dragged into that because of me.”
He paused, then added, “It won’t happen again. He won’t bother you anymore.”
None of that surprised me.
Having grown up around power struggles, I understood exactly how this worked. Kade had already cleared out Colt’s influence within the pack, and the next step would naturally be dealing with Colt himself.
Still, for someone in his position to apologize to someone everyone else saw as a nobody without a wolf, it took the edge off my irritation.
I finally looked up at him. “It’s fine. I already dealt with it.”
A flicker of surprise crossed his face, and he seemed about to say something when Jett stepped up and the window rolled down. He leaned in and murmured something into Kade’s ear, his gaze briefly flicking toward me with an unreadable look.
Kade narrowed his eyes slightly, studying me for a moment before speaking, “Move him out tonight. Handle it yourself.”
“Yes.” Jett straightened and left.
Kade turned back to me. “I’ll take you home.”
“Mm.” I nodded lightly.
I shouldn’t have saved him that day. It was only going to drag me deeper into his world.
I was still thinking when Kade spoke again.
“Damon’s running into issues managing Blazeborn Pack. Lately, he’s been trying to get backing from the Soren main line.”
I let out a quiet, cold laugh. “That was bound to happen. With the way he runs things, it was only a matter of time before something broke. But getting the main line involved? That won’t come cheap.”

Kade nodded. “Before, they might’ve stayed out of it. But things are different now.”
I understood immediately.

If this had happened before, the Soren main line might not have stepped in. But now, with my engagement to Kade, the situation had changed.
Kade let out a quiet breath. “Don’t worry. I remember the first thing I promised you.”
Hearing that, I relaxed slightly.
As long as the Howell family didn’t take a clear stance, the Soren family’s plan to leverage this engagement wouldn’t go anywhere. Without real benefits, the main line wouldn’t rush to help Damon.
But to me, that still wasn’t enough.
This time, I was going to make Damon pay.
