Our eyes met, and for a long moment, neither of us spoke.

Natalie turned away quickly, wiping her face with the sleeve of her shirt, “How did the surgery go?”

“Kade is stable for now,” I replied, pulling off my surgical mask wearily. “But the desert conditions are harsh. With the abnormal magnetic field disrupting our wolf spirit link, his injuries will heal much slower than usual.”

“I’ll arrange a helicopter immediately to transport him to the nearest advanced medical center,” Natalie said, already moving toward the door.

“The first time I saw you, I felt drawn to you–like I needed to be close, to protect you. Just now, watching you hurt, I don’t even know why, but it felt like my heart was being torn apart.

“But that test result really did say…”

Hearing her words, my spirits sank completely. I lowered my gaze and murmured, “Maybe it’s just a strange coincidence…”

I didn’t want the Hudson family to get the wrong idea–to think I was using my resemblance to Natalie for personal gain.

Before I could figure out what to say next, Desmond rushed into the room, breathless.

“Aunt Natalie, it’s bad,” he said urgently. “Jack’s men just reported that Uncle Killian is running a dangerously high fever–they’re worried he might not pull through.”

Natalie’s face paled instantly. Without another word, she turned to leave.

“He’s stable for now. Desmond can watch over him.” I grabbed my medical kit and added, “Besides…Mr. Hawke’s condition might require someone with medical training.

“Don’t worry. Even without my wolf spirit, my skills as a healer are well recognized across the Pack Alliance.”
