Third–Person POV:
Gordon was quiet for a long moment before giving a slow pod. “Are you sure about this, Natalie?

“We both felt it when we met her, didn’t we?” Natalie replied, her voice low and insistent. “Our wolves didn’t recognize her scent- not at all. Doesn’t that tell you everything?”
“And you remember,” she went on, her grip tightening on her father’s arm, “the baby we lost… we had the DNA records from back then.”
Her eyes held a fierce hope. “Dad, look at her. Nira’s face… it’s almost a mirror image of how I looked at her age. And two the timing fits perfectly.”
“Alright.” Gordon let out a quiet, resigned breath. “We’ll do it your way.”
A relieved smile finally broke through Natalie’s tense expression. “Thank you.”

Nira’s POV:
After stepping out of the private town car, one of the household staff led Kade and me to the guest suite in the west wing.
It was a spacious, elegantly appointed apartment, comfortable and quietly luxurious.
The moment the door closed behind us, I reached for the first–aid kit. “Let me change your bandages, Kade. We need to keep that wound clean.”
Kade watched me carefully as I worked, his voice softening. “Whatever the test shows, I’m not going anywhere.”
I checked the healing cut on his arm and offered a small, reassuring smile.
I knew what he was really saying he was worried about how I was holding up.
“I know you’re here,” I said, meeting his gaze gently. “That’s why I know I can handle whatever comes next.”
Some of the tension finally eased from his expression.
Just then, a light knock sounded at the door.

It was Natalie herself, wheeling in a cart laden with delicate pastries, fresh fruit, and what looked like high–protein recovery shakes. “Nira, Mr. Howell–the kitchen just put these together,” she said, her eyes warm as they rested on me. “I hope it’s to your liking.
I stood up quickly. “Ms. Hudson, you really didn’t have to.”
“Please, call me Natalie.” She smiled warmly and handed me a polished silver fork. “You’re too thin, dear. A growing girl needs her strength.”
Over the following days, Natalie’s attention never wavered.

Each morning, a maid would deliver a selection of new, season–appropriate dresses. Meals were consistently filled with dishes) favored. Even the fresh flowers in om sitting room were changed daily, always matching scents and colors I’d casually mentioned liking
Her kindness left me deeply moved and increasingly on edge. The more she treated me like family, the more desperately! hoped… and feared… what the DNA results would reveal.
Every night, I found myself stepping outside under the moonlight, sending a quiet, earnest prayer to the Moon Goddess.
Killian’s POV:
I watched as Natalie poured all that careful attention onto Nira.
Over the past few days, I’d kept my distance but observed closely–both Nira and that Howell boy. On the surface, nothing seemed out of place.
But the fear of Natalie being hurt again gnawed at me.
Twenty–two years ago, when we lost our daughter, she shattered. Our mate bond meant I felt her anguish through my own wolf spirit–a raw, relentless pain.
I knew, better than anyone, that she had never truly recovered.
Part of me prayed with everything I had that Nira was ours. It would finally close that old, festering wound.
But if she wasn’t…
I’d already braced myself for that.
If she wasn’t our blood, but her heart was in the right place, I’d make sure she wanted for nothing. We could even… keep her close, if Natalie needed that.
