Edmund lifted a hand, signaling the team to halt. “Dina, there’s nowhere left to run. Release Killian, and we can talk this through.”
“Talk?” Dina let out a cold, mocking laugh. “Get me a speedboat–full tank. Once I’m clear, I’ll let him go.”
I kept my voice low, speaking into the comms. “Snipers are ready, but she’s moving too erratically. No clean shot.”
Edmund kept stalling. “Fine. But prove to me Killian is still alive first.”
With a cruel smirk, Dina pinched Killian’s philtrum hard.
Killian’s eyes fluttered open, pain flickering in his gaze. When he realized what was happening, he murmured weakly, “Edmund…”
“Quiet!” Dina tightened her grip on his throat and glared back at Edmund. “Satisfied? Now get me that boat!”
Just then, I caught a slight shift in the shadows behind a shipping container at Dina’s back–my special ops were in position.
“Alright, you win,” Edmund said, playing along. He waved to the men behind him. “Prepare the yacht at Pier Seven.”
The moment Dina’s attention wavered, I gave the signal.
Pop! A smoke grenade burst at her feet.
Simultaneously, three special forces operatives shifted–their forms/melting into three powerful black wolves. They lunged from the darkness, tackling Dina to the ground before she could react.
“Killian!” Edmund rushed forward, catching Killian as he stumbled.
“Move, now!” Dina’s remaining crew dragged her toward the waiting yacht. The engine roared to life, carrying them swiftly toward open water.
But they didn’t make it far. Less than five hundred yards out, two of our patrol boats cut across their path, blocking their escape. Dina and her men were swiftly apprehended and brought back to shore.
As they hauled Dina onto the dock, she suddenly thrashed wildly, fighting against her restraints,
With a furious scream, she tore off an unusual–looking bracelet from her wrist. “If I can’t have him, no one will!”
In that instant, my wolf spirit, Odin, sensed it—the bracelet radiated a controlling energy, one tied directly to Killian
Then it hit me. Nira had mentioned this device before. It was called the Heartbind Chime, the very tool Dina had used to manipulate Killian all this time.
“Stop her!” I shouted, but I was too late.
Dina slammed the bracelet down hard against the deck. A sharp, piercing crack rang out, and from across the dock, Killian let out an agonized scream, his body seizing violently.
“Hahaha!” Dina’s laughter was wild, her hair tangled across her face. “Natalie, you’ll never have all of him! The Heartbind is broken

I didn’t let her finish. A swift strike to the back of her neck silenced her.
Once Edmund’s men took her away, he and I rushed Killian back to Hudson Manor.
The moment I saw Nira, I said, “Dina destroyed the Heartbind Chime.”
