“Nira, we’ve taken care of the Frostveil Pack operatives. Their real target is Killian. They sent another team ahead to go after him- stay alert.”
“Understood.” I straightened up immediately. Inside me, Lya was already on edge, her instincts sharpening for a fight.
The Frostveil Pack again. What were they really after?
Soon enough, Desmond’s speedboat pulled back up to the dock with Killian unconscious on board.
Natalie rushed over to check on him. His forehead was furrowed, and he kept murmuring things like, “Natalie, run…” in his restless sleep.
“His memories are scrambled again,” I said, moving closer. Without hesitation, I took out a syringe and gave a light injection at the base of his neck to put him into a deeper sleep.
After examining him carefully, I let out a quiet sigh of relief. “He’s stable for now, but he’ll need a full workup back at the manor.”
During the drive back, I filled everyone in on the intel Alexander had sent over.
“Three centuries ago, when the Frostveil Pack was destroyed, Alexander’s ancestor took pity on the Alpha’s newborn child–a half- Lycan pup–and spared him and his mother. They were relocated somewhere off the grid.
“Who would’ve thought that after all this time, Frostveil remnants would track them down. And Mr. Hawke here is that child’s descendant. They want to capture him and force him to rebuild the pack.”
Natalie’s eyes
widened in disbelief. “It’s been so long… Why are these people still holding onto this?”
Kade let out a cold laugh. “So first they sent Dina to drive a wedge between them, and when that didn’t work, they went straight to kidnapping?”
“What’s even more absurd,” I added, shaking my head, “is that they looked into Mr. Hawke’s business track record over the years and decided he had what it takes to rebuild and lead the Frostveil Pack. Since he carries the Alpha bloodline, it would give his leadership legitimacy. They planned to force him to return and take up the Alpha title.”
An awkward silence settled in the car.
Desmond suddenly chuckled under his breath. “So after all that, they just want to guilt trip someone into being their backup plan?”
“Natalie, don’t worry,” I went on. “Alexander said he and Sofia have already captured the Frostveil remnants. No one’s going to lay a hand on Mr. Hawke now.”
Natalie’s expression brightened with a glimmer of hope. “Then… can they help restore Killian’s memories
I shook my head gently, feeling a pang of regret. “My father told me that although these people carry the frostved name, after three hundred years, the true pureblood Frostvell wolves are long gone. What they know is only surface level history.”
The hope in Natalie’s eyes faded. She looked down at Killian resting his head in her lap and began softly running her fingers through his still–damp hair. “It’s alright… As long as he’s sate, that’s what matters.

The car fell quiet for a while, the only sound the steady hum of tires on pavement.

As I prepared the medication, I explained to Natalie, who was standing nearby, “His vitals are steady. He should wake up once the sedative wears off. But…”
