Clang!
Something shattered downstairs, the sharp crash echoing through the house.
I clenched my fists, but I didn’t slow down, walking straight back to my room as if none of it mattered.
Over and over, I told myself not to care, not to let it get to me. Even without them, I wasn’t alone.
I still had my adoptive father.
He was the one who raised me, the one who taught me everything I knew, the one who intended to hand the Silvermoon Pack over to me someday.
As for the Sorens, I had already stopped expecting anything from them a long time ago.
And yet, when Jenna said it so easily, that they would use me to save Nolan, something in my chest still tightened in a way I couldn’t ignore.
When I was younger, I used to watch other kids with their families, parents who cared, siblings who protected them, and I would feel a quiet, unspoken envy.
So when I found out I had a biological family of my own, I held onto that hope and followed it all the way here.
I thought I was finally going to have a place that truly belonged to me.
Instead, reality tore that illusion apart without hesitation.
The moment I “lost” my wolf, the moment I was no longer useful, everything changed. I became someone to be dismissed, manipulated, and treated as expendable.
I slowed to a stop without realizing it, standing there as if the air around me had suddenly turned cold.
Five years ago, the day they tricked me and sent me to prison, should have been enough to make me see things clearly.
So why did it still hurt now?
Because some part of me never completely gave up on the idea of family.
I let out a slow breath, forcing that feeling down.
At least I still had him.
It had been a long time since I’d seen my adoptive father. He was probably still buried in responsibilities, holding the Silvermoon Pack together on his own. Meanwhile, I was stuck here in the Blazeborn Pack, unable to return and help him.
As an alpha heir, I had been deceived and thrown into prison. Every time I thought about it, it felt like a stain I couldn’t ignore, like! had failed everything he had taught me.
He hadn’t contacted me in a long time. Even Lyra couldn’t reach him.

Was he disappointed in me?
My fingers curled slightly, my claws slipping out as the thought settled in. Everything that had happened traced back to the Sorens.
And sooner or later, I would make them answer for it.
Ever since they told Nira to go to Kade, she had completely ignored them.
Damon couldn’t understand it. Since getting out of prison, she had changed in a way that made her difficult to control. Someone without a wolf should have been powerless, yet she showed no fear at all.
He wanted to assert his authority as the alpha of the Blazeborn Pack, to remind her exactly where she stood.
But her connection to Kade made him hesitate.
What puzzled him even more was Kade’s reaction. By all logic, once Kade woke up, he should have immediately called off the engagement. Someone like Nira, someone without a wolf, should have been the first thing he cut loose.
And yet, there had been nothing. No cancellation, no distance, not even a mention of it.
With no way to force Nira’s hand, Damon had no choice but to look for another solution.
But things escalated far faster than he expected.
Not long after Nolan was taken into custody, the video online. People immediately connected it to ClueHollow’s earlier posts, and within hours, his accounts were flooded with comments.
Then ClueHollow responded again, this time with undeniable evidence.
A surveillance video nel
nt of the incident at the bar was released, enhanced and restored until every detail was clear.
The footage showed Nolan
and out of control, shifting into his wolf form and, in the chaos, killing a mixed–blood bartender.
Afterward, he ran out of the bar, jumped his sports car, and sped away from the scene.
Along with the video, a photo was posted of Nolan standing beside that same car.
The license plate matched perfectly, leaving no room for denial.
The internet erupted almost instantly.
[He killed someone and just ran? What kind of person does that?]
[Isn’t he from the Blazeborn Pack? Raised with every advantage, and this is what he does? He needs to be locked up.]
[People like this shouldn’t get away with it. Strip him of his wolf and throw him out of the pack.]
The victim had been a low–ranking mixed–blood bartender, the sole provider for his family. At home, he had a child suffering from a terminal illness, a child without a wolf who depended on him for treatment.
With him gone, the entire family lost everything.
