Damon faltered under it, instinctively wiping his palms as his eyes darted away. “Mr. Reed, this is just a misunderstanding. She had a disagreement with the family, and I said that in the heat of the moment.”
He turned to me, forcing a casual tone. “Come on, I didn’t mean it. Why would you take it seriously?”
Jenna shot me a glare and opened her mouth to speak, but Damon grabbed her arm, his grip tightening in warning. She stiffened, then swallowed her words.
“Oh, so it didn’t count?” I said lightly, as if I hadn’t noticed any of it. “Then I’m free to go now, right?”
Then I looked at Janice, the corner of my lips lifting slightly. “You want to come back with me?”
Janice bit down hard on her lip, her eyes flashing with resentment. “No.”
“Alright, enough,” Alden cut in impatiently, already pulling me toward the door. “We’re leaving.”
Graham didn’t follow immediately.
Instead, he turned back to Damon, his gaze unwavering as he spoke in an even tone.
“Nira is the kind of talent we see maybe once in a generation. Howard Academy won’t discriminate against her for not having a wolf soul. On the contrary, we intend to invest heavily in her.”
He paused, letting the words settle before continuing, “If her family provides her with proper support instead of holding her back, she’ll go much further. That would benefit both your family and the academy.”
The words sounded measured, almost casual.
But Damon heard the warning beneath them all the same. “Don’t hold her back, or you lose everything she could bring you.”
Damon forced a smile. “Of course. We’ll support her from now on.”
Graham gave a small nod, then turned and left.

The moment he was gone, Jenna leaned closer, her disbelief finally spilling over. “How is that even possible? She doesn’t even have a wolf soul. How could she get a perfect score? That’s the highest score Howard Academy has ever recorded. Even top–tier purebloods haven’t reached that.”
There was no way. It didn’t add up.
“Do you think… Kade had something to do with it?”
Damon knew Nira’s past better than anyone. She had dropped out early, lost her wolf soul, and spent years locked away. There was no reasonable explanation for how she could have learned so much in such a short time.
But hearing Jenna say it…
It suddenly felt like the only explanation that made sense.
