Chapter 72 Running Out of Time
Chapter 72 Running Out of Time
Nira’s POV:
The name Rhett immediately made me think of Janice. He’d been going after her for a while.

“Tessa got into his car. The last location shows they headed toward the south side, near the southwest edge of pack territory. I’m going there now, Move,” I said quickly.
“Got it,” Derrick responded without hesitation.
“And notify the Duvall family,” I added. “The more people searching, the better our chances.”
After ending the call, I was just about to let Lyra take over so I could move at full speed. At a time like this, nothing was faster than her, not even the best car on the road.
But right as I was about to shift, a black sedan pulled up hard in front of me.
“Miss Soren.”
#
Jett.
I hesitated for only a fraction of a second before opening the door and getting in. This wasn’t the time to expose anything about myself.
“Drive. Southwest boundary. Now.”
Jett didn’t ask questions. He floored it immediately, and the car shot forward, tearing down the road at full speed.
We reached the abandoned factory district quickly.
By then, it was already eight o’clock, and the sky had gone completely dark. Every extra minute meant more danger for Tessa.
“Stay here and wait for Derrick,” I said as I got out of the car.
“Miss Soren, you don’t even have a wolf. You can’t just go in there alone-”
Lignored him and ran straight into the factory.
The moment I stepped inside, the smell hit me hard.
Rotting materials, rusted metal, damp concrete, everything mixed together into something thick and nauseating.
I forced myself to focus, shutting everything else out as I let Lyra sort through the chaos of scents, searching for Tessa’s trace.
In a deeply hidden corner of the abandoned factory, Tessa lay on the ground, blindfolded and tightly bound.
Her arms and legs were covered in cuts and scrapes from struggling against sharp debris scattered across the floor.
“Mmph! Mmph!”

Even with cloth stuffed into her mouth, she was still trying to curse, the sounds coming out muffled and strained. With her wolf in a dormant state, she didn’t have the strength to break free no matter how hard she tried.
Not far away, Rhett stood with several rogue wolves.
“Don’t worry, we’ve got her under control,” one of them said. He was a burly bald man with half of one ear missing, his eyes roaming over Tessa in a way that made his intentions unmistakable. “She’s not going anywhere.”
Rhett covered his nose, clearly irritated by the environment. “Just keep an eye on her. When the time comes, let her go.”
The bald man nodded repeatedly. “Got it. We’ll do exactly what you said.”
Rhett still had to make it back to school to watch Janice’s performance. After giving his instructions, he didn’t linger and quickly left.
The moment he was gone, the mood shifted.
“Boss, we’re really just gonna sit here and let her go later?” one of the lackeys asked, stepping closer, his face full of dissatisfaction as his gaze lingered on Tessa.

The bald man spat on the ground. “He made it clear. What do you expect me to do?”
The lackey scoffed. “He’s not even here. How would he know what we do? And she’s not exactly going to go around telling people…”
Another man stared at Tessa, swallowing as his eyes lit up. “Boss, you can tell just by her scent. She’s high–bloodline, pure. And look at her… we’d never even get close to someone like her under normal circumstances.”
“Yeah,” another added, grinning. “If we got a chance with a she–wolf like that, even once… that’d be something else.”
The bald man’s restraint crumbled under their words. The hunger in his eyes deepened as he licked his lips.
“Damn right,” he muttered. “Letting something like this go to waste would be a shame. He’s not here. He won’t know a damn thing.”
As he spoke, they closed in around Tessa, the desire in their eyes no longer concealed.
