“Alright, alright, no pressure,” the director said immediately, completely unfazed. If anything, he seemed more amused than anything else. “Then how about this, you want a job here? You set the salary.”
That actually caught me off guard.
He really just offered a position to someone everyone else saw as “wolfless“?
Before I could respond, the attending doctor gave me a dismissive look. “Director, she’s still a student. And she doesn’t even have a wolf. What just happened was luck, nothing more.”
The director shot him a glare. “You don’t know what you’re talking about. Anyone who can use that compound and pull off a save like that has better skills than you.”
Then he turned back to me, smiling again like nothing happened. “No rush. Think it over. Call me anytime.”
For some reason, I didn’t find him annoying at all. “I’ll think about it.”
I turned and walked out of the room, but before I got far, the hallway erupted into chaos.
People shouting. Running. Panic spreading fast.
Then I saw him.
A man with bloodshot wolf eyes, his expression twisted, fangs bared, lunging at people like he’d completely lost control.
Everyone scattered.
Briar and the director had just stepped out behind me, and they walked straight into his path.
The man, half–shifted, locked onto the director and charged.
Briar moved without thinking, stepping in front of him. The claws were already coming down.
I moved faster.
I closed the distance in a second and caught his wrist mid–strike.
He thrashed violently, and his claws sliced across the back of my hand before I could fully lock him down.
Blood ran immediately, slipping between my fingers and dripping onto the tile floor.
I ignored it, twisted my body, and drove a sharp kick into his side. He let out a scream and flew back several feet, crashing hard.
But he got up right away like he didn’t feel a thing. His eyes were wild, veins standing out, cursing under his breath as he charged
again.
I was about to pull on Lyra’s power to restrain him when a black blur cut in.
Kade.

His fist drove straight into the man’s abdomen, forcing the air out of him.
Before the guy could recover, Kade shifted position and locked him down from behind, cutting off any movement. No matter how hard he struggled, he couldn’t break free.
Security finally rushed in and took over, dragging the man away.
The director snapped out of it and rushed toward me, clearly shaken. “Are you okay? What were you thinking? You don’t even have a wolf and you still stepped in like that?”
Then he saw my hand, still bleeding.
“Someone get over here!” he shouted immediately. “She needs that treated now!”
