Chapter 26 Old Barrel

Shadowrend sensed something was off, but he didn’t bother with it.

If Alden assisted him in finishing this quest, he could finally leave the Rookie Village.

Whatever he planned to do afterward wasn’t his concern.

“I’ll get you to level 10, and then we’ll look for that Old Barrel,” Alden said as he sent a team invite.

His original goal was to kill monsters to boost his health points. Since he couldn’t gain more experience points after reaching level 10 without leaving the Rookie Village, he decided to lend Shadowrend a hand.

With Alden guiding him, Shadowrend quickly leveled up.

In under 30 minutes, he had already hit level 10.

“Alright, let’s go find Old Barrel,” Alden said.

He headed toward the cave in search of ore, guessing Old Barrel was probably there.

Yet, after wandering around the area, they still couldn’t locate Old Barrel.

“Where could this person have gone?”

Shadowrend brows knitted in frustration.

Alden also frowned, a strong sense of being watched creeping over him.

The unsettling feeling of eyes on him made him uneasy.

“Come out! You’ve been tailing us for quite a while!” Alden called out, scanning his surroundings.

He trusted his instincts–someone had to be nearby.

Shadowrend was taken aback. There were people around them, but he hadn’t sensed anything.

“Haha! Every generation brings forth remarkable talents. So young, yet already this strong,” a voice chuckled.

A hearty laugh echoed as an elderly man, disheveled and weathered, strode over with a wine gourd in hand.

Old Barrel: Level 12.

Health Points: ???

Attack: ???

Skills: ???

“Note: The bar owner in Rookie Village seems to be searching for something near the cave. Maybe you could lend him a hand.”

If a regular player ran into Old Barrel, they might actually get a quest from him.

Chapter 26 Old Barrel

Alden stared at him, who lazily gazed back with half–closed eyes.

“Frost King, your name’s been spreading all over the Rookie Village lately. But now that you’ve hit level 10, why haven’t you headed to the main city yet?”

Alden chuckled, “Oh, it’s not that I don’t want to go. It’s just that Village Keeper has given me too much to handle.”

“Why? Did Village Keeper send you to kill me?”

Alden lifted an eyebrow. “So you’re already aware. In that case, let me experience the strength of a senior firsthand.”

Without hesitation, he fired an arrow.

Whoosh!

The arrow sliced through the air with a sharp whistle.

Old Barrel narrowed his eyes and flipped backward, effortlessly dodging the attack.

“Whoa, no need to be so aggressive! Can’t we talk this out?” he chuckled.

Old Barrel grinned as he looked at Alden.

“Whatever Village Keeper promised you, I might be able to match it.”

He slowly set his wine bottle down in front of Alden.

“Take a sip. You two leave the Rookie Village and forget about all the conflicts here. None of it will matter to you anymore.”

Ding! “Old Barrel has offered you a quest.”

“Quest requirements: Drink a glass of wine and leave the Rookie Village immediately.”

“Quest penalty: None.”

“Quest reward: +50 Attribute Points.”

Alden and Shadowrend exchanged glances, both stunned by what they saw.

The reason was simple.

Old Barrel’s reward was unbelievably generous.

In fact, it was far beyond what they had expected.

Most players had to complete Village Keeper’s quest to exit the Rookie Village.

All they had to do was take a sip of wine.

And in return, they’d earn an incredibly generous reward.

It’s 50 Attribute Points–equal to gaining ten levels.

Old Barrel chuckled. “As for quest penalties, don’t worry. Once you drink my wine, you’ll be instantly teleported out of Rookie

“Village Keeper won’t be able to punish you.”

Alden could tell that he was being honest.

The quest was easy, and the reward was tempting.

Yet, he hesitated.

There was a clear reason for his doubt.

If he finished the quests on his two Quest Scrolls, he would gain the Blessing of the Gods. Even the least favorable result from those blessings would likely surpass this reward.

Shadowrend paused for a moment before agreeing to the quest.

He had no plans to remain involved any longer.

This was the perfect chance to walk away, so he saw no reason to decline.

After finishing his drink, Shadowrend departed from the Rookie Village.

Old Barrel turned to Alden, grinning. “How about you?”

Alden stayed silent, responding instead by readying his bow.

Whoosh!

The arrow sliced through the air.

A sharp glint appeared in Old Barrel’s eyes. “What did Village Keeper offer you to make you take his side?”

As the words left his mouth, he spat out a mouthful of potent liquor.

The liquor transformed into a flying sword in mid–air, and within an instant, it shot toward Alden.

Alden used his long bow to strike the flying sword, then quickly rolled to the side.

Each movement flowed effortlessly, without a single misstep.

At the same time, he drew his bow and let an arrow loose.

The battle began!

Alden didn’t know much about Old Barrel. His stats and his abilities, everything about him was a mystery.

After completing the quest earlier, Alden had gained 20 Attribute Points, which he had used to increase his movement speed.

He boosted his movement speed by another 2 points.

His attack speed was already more than adequate at this point.

In reality, his damage output was so high that having over three points in attack speed was somewhat wasted.

Boosting his movement speed became his next priority.

With enough speed, his ability to dodge and control the fight would improve significantly.

Alden kept attacking, focusing not on dealing heavy damage but on stopping Old Barrel from causing any damage.

However, Old Barrel’s battle experience was far greater than Alden had expected.
