Chapter 48 Leona’s Choice!

Winton’s face twisted suddenly. He, along with the Nine-Headed Hydra Tree and the Yellow- Furred Weasel, started losing HP, slowly but steadily.

on the cliff, a woman in a gorgeous, sparkling gown stepped forward.

Her first step looked like she was walking on air, but frost bloomed beneath her foot, holding her up like invisible glass.

One step, two steps, three steps Each one left a flower of ice behind.

She was still a ways off, but Alden already knew who she was.

Princess Leona.

Right now, in all of Rookie Village, the only one who could pull this off was the Astralon princess herself.

“Hello, Princess Leona.”

Winton’s voice changed-gone was the snarling tone from before. Now he smiled, all polite and friendly, as if they’d been lifelong friends.

Leona swept her icy gaze over him. “I know exactly what you’re trying to do.”

Winton froze for a heartbeat, then laughed softly. “Princess Leona, if you already know … then you must also know how much I admire you.”

“No need for fake sweet talk.” Leona’s lips curved into a bitter smile.

“You think you’ve got everything under control … but have you thought that maybe I could just kill you right now?”

Winton’s eyes narrowed. He spread his hands. “Of course you could kill me. But if you did, how exactly would you leave this place?

“Your ambition won’t let you sit here, trapped in Rookie Village forever.”

Leona let out a cold, short laugh. “That’s not something you need to worry about.

“I know exactly what I’m-doing.”

As she spoke, cold air rippled out from her like an invisible storm.

Winton’s face darkened.

“Rage mode. Ultimate Body. Fallen Wings Ballet!”

In an instant, he unleashed three skills at once.

A pair of broken, jagged wings appeared behind him.

He beat them hard, shooting upward toward the cliff.

Leona lifted her hand.

Above Winton’s head, a massive frost magic circle bloomed.

Then countless ice spikes rained down from it.

A cascade of huge damage numbers exploded in the air. Just one magic circle, and Winton had lost over a million HP.

She’s absolutely terrifying.

Alden had expected Leona to be strong, sure.

But this was way beyond anything he’d imagined.

No wonder Winton tried to run the moment she attacked.

Up in the air, Winton swerved, still trying to escape.

The Nine-Headed Hydra Tree and the Yellow-Furred Weasel lunged forward to stall her.

They didn’t even last a second.

In the next instant, the two powerful bosses were frozen solid.

Leona raised her hand again, and an ice shield appeared behind Winton, slamming him down

hard.

Winton broke free of the shield but didn’t try to run this time. He just stood there, glaring

coldly at her.

“Go ahead. Kill me. I don’t mind dying if you’ve got what it takes.”

But Leona didn’t move. And in that second, Alden understood why.

Winton wasn’t an NPC anymore. He was a wilderness boss.

And wilderness bosses had a special rule-when killed, they respawned. In other words, they came back to life.

Alden had killed both the Nine-Headed Hydra Tree and the Yellow-Furred Weasel before. Yet here they were again.

Respawned.

“What’s wrong? Not gonna kill me? Then maybe you should listen to me.”

Winton’s voice had steadied.

“I want to marry you. I want to be the next king of Astralon.”

Leona’s presence turned sharp and dangerous. The temperature around them plummeted.

“Don’t get mad so quickly. This could be a win-win.

“You’ve been gone from Astralon for a long time. If you rush back, you won’t have anyone to

support you.

“But if you marry me, I can be that support.

“I’m a monster. An NPC. But most importantly, I once received a Blessing from the Gods. I can level up and grow stronger, just like an adventurer.”

At those words, for the first time, Leona’s expression shifted.

NPCs and monsters had one big drawback-they couldn’t push past their natural limits to get stronger.

Alden saw her reaction and felt his stomach drop.

If she said yes, he’d lose his chance at the second Blessing from the Gods.

And he’d worked so hard for that.

“A partner who can grow, who can’t be killed for good, who will fight for you when you claim Astralon’s throne you know how valuable that is.

“Don’t worry-we can have a fake marriage. It won’t hurt your reputation. In the end, we’ll just be Astralon’s rulers.”

Alden had to admit that strategically, Winton’s offer was tempting.

Guess I’m out of luck, Alden thought with a bitter edge.

But then Leona spoke, and hope sparked in him again.

“I think I have plenty of options for a partner. For example … Frost King!”

Winton’s pupils shrank. “He’s just an adventurer. You have no guarantee he’ll stay loyal.”

“No.”

Leona shook her head. “I’m not marrying him. I’m giving him a quest.

“Frost King, will you help me become Astralon’s queen? If you succeed, I’ll build 3,000 shrines in your honor and name you Astralon’s God of War.”

Alden’s eyes went wide.

In the late game of Twilight of the Gods, ordinary Attack Power and magic barely mattered

anymore.

The top players chased godhood, and the first step to godhood was ascension by faith, gathering the faith of believers.

Leona’s meaning was clear: She’d build temples to worship Alden, giving him power from the faith of the Astralon people.

Ding! “Princess Leona has given you a quest.

“Quest requirement: Help her become Astralon’s next ruler.

“Quest penalty: Unknown.

“Quest reward: She will name you God of War and build 3,000 temples for you.”

“Accept!”

Alden didn’t even hesitate.

Most failed because they couldn’t gather enough faith. It was almost impossible to get.

“Princess Leona, how are you planning to leave Rookie Village?”

Leona’s gaze shifted to the Dual Pisces Array.

“Simple. Release Drymora. He’ll break the space barrier himself. We just follow him out.”

Winton’s voice rose into an angry shout. “Leona, you’re insane! Do you even know what happens if you let Drymora loose?”
