Game Over Not Over for Me novel Chapter 54

Chapter 54: Nightwalkers Make Their Move!

The instant those words escaped into the grand hall, a heavy silence fell over everyone present. Time seemed to pause, as if the very air held its breath.

Veyla’s expression shifted dramatically—her serene composure shattered, replaced by a storm of emotions flashing across her face in a heartbeat.

The Astralon Chamber of Commerce was no ordinary institution; it was the very foundation of Astralon’s wealth and power. More than a third of the kingdom’s entire revenue flowed through its doors. That fact alone underscored its unparalleled importance.

But just moments later, Veyla regained her poise, smoothing the tempest from her features.

Leona simply couldn’t accomplish what she claimed.

Even with Father’s promise of an enormous reward hanging in the balance, would Leona truly succeed? The thought seemed absurd.

Failure would mean the end of her bid for the throne.

“I will not fail you, Father,” Leona declared, bowing deeply with unwavering respect.

Veyla’s smile was cold and laced with mockery. “Then allow me to be the first to congratulate you, Leona, on becoming the new head of the Astralon Chamber of Commerce.”

Her tone was courteous, but the sharp sarcasm dripped from every word.

Without sparing Veyla a glance, Leona gave another respectful bow toward the throne.

“Father, I will begin my preparations immediately.”

“Go,” Abraxis commanded simply.

Leona exited the palace, her mind focused as she made her way directly to the Venomfang Spiders’ lair.

No sooner had she arrived than she spotted Alden, moving with the effortless grace of a summer breeze, dodging the venomous strikes of the spiders as if they were mere shadows.

Then, with precise aim, an arrow flew true, piercing a spider’s gaping mouth and killing it instantly.

Ding! “You have slain a Venomfang Spider above your level. XP +17,658. Snowbound Guild Achievement Points +200.”

Ding! “You have reached level 12. Attribute Points +5.”

Ding! “You are the first player to kill a Venomfang Spider. A server-wide announcement will be made. Would you like to hide your nickname?”

“No,” came the quick reply.

“Server-wide Announcement: Congratulations to player Frost King for being the first to kill a Venomfang Spider. May this inspire all players to continue striving forward.”

The message echoed throughout the entire server, but Alden barely flinched—accustomed to such fanfare. As he scavenged the spider’s corpse, he casually asked, “How did it go?”

“I told them,” Leona replied simply. “And I gave my word—if I fail, I’ll withdraw from the race for the throne.”

“One day,” Alden murmured.

Leona blinked, puzzled. “One day? What do you mean?”

“In one day, Grayson—the Demon King’s son—will be dead. His death cry will resonate across all of Astralon,” Alden said, his voice calm and steady, like a still lake.

Leona’s eyes widened in disbelief.

One day?

He really believed he could kill the sealed Grayson in just one day?

It sounded like a joke, but she couldn’t find any reason why Alden would lie.

“Fine,” she said, determination hardening her voice. “If you can pull it off, I’ll receive a massive reward—and so will you.”

“Then wait and watch. Soon, Grayson’s death cry will shake the entire kingdom.”

Leona nodded slowly.

Back in Rookie Village, she had already chosen Alden over Winton. Now, with this seemingly impossible plan, she was placing her entire bet on him once more.

There was no turning back.

The truth was, she had lingered in Rookie Village far too long. If she truly wanted the throne, she had to risk everything.

After Leona departed, Alden silently opened the Book of Life and Death.

On its ancient pages, he inscribed a single name: Grayson Freeman.

Astralon, Starshard Well.

Deep beneath the well, Grayson remained sealed.

But cracks were beginning to mar the seal’s surface.

Two elderly men, clad in white robes, stood sentinel nearby. They were the kingdom’s most skilled formation masters, tirelessly reinforcing the barrier.

Yet their efforts were futile.

At this rate, he wouldn’t survive half an hour.

“Ahhh! Who’s there?! Show yourself! I’ll rip you apart!”

His roars shook the air, filled with desperation.

Sealed and powerless, all he could do was watch his HP plummet.

Nearby, people heard his anguished cries.

Dozens of stunned, disbelieving, and for some, furious eyes turned toward Leona.

The angry glares came from those who stood to lose if Leona succeeded—Veyla among them.

And from the Nightwalkers concealed within the palace walls.

When they heard the Demon King’s son scream, their fury ignited.

Still, Leona sat at the center of those hostile gazes, forcing herself to appear calm, as if she controlled everything.

But inside, a storm raged.

She couldn’t fathom how Alden was accomplishing this.

Grayson’s rage turned to panic.

His health was falling fast, and he was utterly helpless.

“Damn it! What are you waiting for? Do it now! If you delay any longer, I’ll be dead!”

That was the breaking point.

The Nightwalkers hiding in the palace shed their disguises and launched their attack.

Not far away, a soldier suddenly thrust his sword deep into his comrade’s back.

The white steel pierced through, and red blossomed instantly.

The stabbed soldier’s eyes widened in shock and pain, freezing him in place.

Before he could react, the attacker swung again, and the fallen soldier’s head hit the ground with a sickening thud.
