Sylas grasped out the scythe, his gaze calm. Black-gold fog radiated from its blade, the space it had just torn apart resisting the weaving of it back together as though it had almost been harmed beyond repair.
This scythe had been missing from his Monkey King Armor. None of the other Emperor Armors had a weapon attached to them, but who said that Sylas had to follow their plans?
The tale of the Monkey King could obviously not be told without his staff. If it were just an additional add-on, an irrelevant piece of information, then the Will of the Monkey King itself wouldn't have spawned back in this reality with a version of it.
Sylas felt that this was exactly what he needed to bridge the gap between beast and man-a tool. It was often the symbol of separation between the two Races, whether in a world without a Summoning, one that had just passed it, or one that had extensive since passed it.
Men used weapons. Beasts used claws.
This wasn't a philosophical decision for Sylas by any stretch of the imagination. He wasn't married to using close combat, just like he wasn't married to using a weapon.
However, when he comprehended this and sensed the potential future path...
He could no longer resist.
That was because this armored scythe, this Grim Blade, wasn't just a weapon attached to his new Monkey King Armor. No, it was far deeper than that.
Not only did this scythe incorporate his Royal Line, it also incorporated his Pride Seed, causing it to have an extra suppressive effect on Will. Meaning not only was this scythe capable of using the Grimblade Gene Talent and Bloodline to sever and swallow Will to strengthen Sylas, but it was also capable of suppressing that very same Will at the same time.
This caused a double-whammy sort of effect where the Grim Blade was exponentially more effective than it might already be.
Like this, the Grim Blade couldn't just cut people-it could cut Will, it could cut skills and Runes. There simply wasn't a limit to what it could cut at all so long as it used Will as a basis... Something everything in existence did.
And yet, this still wasn't the end of it, because the Runes that Sylas used to extend his Monkey King Armor didn't just reflect his Pride Seed and its destruction... But also the Life and Death Seal.
When Sylas killed the projection of the Monkey King, he had used his Grimblade Gene Talent and the Death Seal at the same time. That was why the Death Seal had appeared behind the Monkey King's projection at the time, away from the Monkey King's view.
He had done this because although he didn't know exactly how he would close the time loop he needed to in the future, what he did know was that the Reaper Sealwright Profession would be a good foundational starting point to do exactly that.
The Death Seal worked with things of the past, exploring bloodlines that had long fallen and sensing Wills that should have long been erased.
In a way, the Death Seal was granting even Lines that didn't have Transcendents attached to them some aspects of a Transcendent Will for the benefit of future users.
It was impossible that the Genes and bloodlines Sylas had already used Death Seal on until now all had figures as powerful as the Monkey King. And yet, the Death Seal worked nonetheless... So how was the question.
Sylas might not have understood just yet, but he was intelligent enough to know exactly how to lay the proper groundwork.
