Chapter 188 Compensation for Jasper
Chapter 188 Compensation for Jasper
Caroline did not hesitate any longer. She stepped forward and absorbed the mutant pine- along with the bedsheets wrapped tightly around it–into her space.
After a few quick moves, the spot in front of her was empty again. She checked inside her. space with her mind and, sure enough, the pine was there. Finally, she could breathe a sigh of relief.
That fight had taken almost half an hour.
Time was running short, and it was already night, so Caroline quickly got back to work.
In the second room on that floor, she found racks of exported clothes–mostly hoodies and windbreakers.
Without overthinking it, she swept them all into her space.
Then she headed to the next room.
This one was full of electronic components, most without logos.
They were probably meant to be shipped overseas, branded as “gold–plated,” and then sold back domestically at a markup.
Caroline looked over the parts. They seemed to belong to computers, phones, and TVs.
Knowing that technology would still advance later on, she figured these parts could fetch her a good deal from the government someday. So, without hesitation, she stored them all.
The last room held car parts–sorted neatly into small boxes, cach labeled and categorized. Basically, if a car broke down, these parts could fix it.
Caroline raised a brow. Nice. These will be valuable in the apocalypse, she thought, and packed them up too.
After clearing the floor, exhaustion finally hit her. She decided to drink some water, grab a bite, and then check on that mutant pine in her space.
Raven, lying nearby, also looked drained. An idea popped into Caroline’s head–she pulled out a pack of dog treats.
The moment Raven heard the crinkling of the bag, his huge head slowly lifted off the ground

She mixed the treats into his dog food and let him cat, while she opened a pack of clam chowder and a mug of warm lemon tea.
She slurped it all down quickly.
Her stomach had been hurting lately–her period was coming soon–so she drank the tea to help ease it, especially since the weather was freezing cold.
Outside, the temperature had dropped to nearly -76 degrees–the coldest point of the season.
After eating, Caroline brought Raven along and entered her space to check things out.
However, the moment she got inside, she froze. There, standing in front of her, was a white spiky creature with a grumpy face–it looked like a mix between a hedgehog and a cat.
Jasper’s fluffy fur was puffed up in anger, his almond–shaped eyes glaring round like marbles.
Sharp pine needles were stuck all over his back, making him look like a walking pincushion.
“So you do remember to come back, huh? You heartless, irresponsible human! Ah! My beautiful, silky fur!” Jasper’s wailing echoed through the entire space.
Caroline was stunned. “What the heck happened here?”
Next to Farm One, she noticed a small patch of freshly turned soil where the mutant pine had been neatly replanted.
The loose earth was covered in tiny paw prints shaped like plum blossoms.
A picture flashed in her mind–Jasper, using his short little paws, digging up the soil, planting the pine, and carefully patting the dirt down.
“Uh.. thanks
thanks for your hard work,” Caroline said awkwardly, already guessing what had gone down.
“Ah! No way, you have to make it up to me! I’m hurt! I can’t even move!” Jasper cried, then dramatically flopped onto the ground, pretending to faint.
Caroline stared at Raven, who was watching the act unfold. “You taught him this, didn’t you?”
Raven looked away.
Then, the big dog bared his teeth at Jasper, clearly unimpressed.

However, Jasper, knowing he was in the right, did not budge–just lay there like a spoiled child refusing to get up.
Raven’s pride was clearly being challenged. He started walking toward Jasper, raising a paw like he was ready to “discipline” him a bit.
Caroline quickly stepped in to stop him. “Alright, alright, he did do some work, after all.”
Besides, Jasper really was hurt; those pine needles were still sticking out of his back.
“Come here. Jasper. Let me take those needles out, Caroline coaxed gently.
But Jasper refused to move, still lying on the ground and whining for compensation.
Caroline’s jaw clenched. Seriously? Doesn’t that hurt?
Then, she suddenly got an idea. Since Jasper was a cat, she pulled out a pack of cat treats from her space.
