Francis always valued his soldiers‘ lives. To him, their duty was to protect civilians and fight off mutant creatures, not waste lives on meaningless conflicts. So he set a rule, “If no one offends us, we don’t offend them.”
After hearing what Tyler said, the soldier finally understood that the people from Building B were also part of a mercenary group. No wonder things made sense now.
“Yeah,” the soldier added, “even though both sides keep out of each other’s way for now, and sometimes trade a bit, Colonel Sutton still doesn’t trust them completely. He always has people on watch.”
Caroline agreed with that approach.
But as for what Building B was really up to, no one could tell.
They had a helicopter and enough strength, so why stay holed up in that building?
Something about it did not sit right.
By the end of the talk, both Caroline and Tyler decided it was best to stay cautious and keep an eye on Building B.
Knowing Tyler had no real grudge with the Obsidian Fang made Caroline feel a bit better.
Still, she made up her mind that whenever she went out scavenging or rode Raven, she would keep an eye on that side of the city.
When they got back to the apartment, the group took the elevator up to the 64th floor. Denton tried to invite Caroline over for dinner.
Before she could answer, Jet was already flapping his wings, eyes glued to Silver.
Caroline smiled and waved it off. “Nah, I’m a little tired. Got leftovers at home anyway. Let’s eat together another day.”
Denton looked disappointed but grinned anyway. “Alright, Caroline. Just tell me what you like to eat! Oh, and Tyler’s a great cook–especially with spicy dishes. Next time, I’ll get him to show off his skills–ah!”
Before he could finish, Tyler grabbed him by the collar and dragged him inside.
From where Caroline stood, it almost looked like Tyler’s face turned a bit red.

Was he embarrassed by being praised?
She could not help but chuckle.

Once she got home, Jet would not stop nagging. “Why didn’t you go eat? Why didn’t you go
cat?”
He kept circling above her head, flapping so much she almost got dizzy.
Raven finally lost patience, raised a paw, and smacked him down–peace restored.
Caroline crouched down and tapped Jet’s head twice. “Unlike you, I don’t have time to think about romance. I’ve got more important things to do.”
Of course, she meant upgrading her space.
After wrapping up a few tasks, she finally had some quiet time.
She pulled out a rice bowl with gravy, poured herself a glass of fresh juice, and fed the two little ones before heading out again.
She took the elevator down to the 65th floor.
The mutant cockroach corpses down there were like appetizers to her. She started collecting them into her space, leaving a few behind for research.
She planned to use her grandmother’s notes and her space’s power to develop new medicines for the army just to keep up appearances.
Otherwise, when people start asking later, it will be hard to explain why they came here with so many mutant animal corpses lying around.
After storing all the corpses, she realized her space had not leveled up yet.
Clearly, each upgrade now required more energy than before.
Back home, she brought Raven and Jet into the space.
As soon as she appeared, Jasper rushed over, blinking his bright eyes. “Master-” he said in that
sugary sweet tone of his.
Caroline patted his furry little head. “No need to rush. We’re starting now.”
With a thought, she pulled out the broken horn from the mutant python.

But before feeding it to the space, she snapped off a small piece and tossed it into the JunkEater.

She remembered the rule–every time the space upgraded, whatever she buried in Farm One or put into the JunkEater would turn into something special.
This time, she had buried a batch of mutant seeds she got from the army in Farm One.
Caroline made a wish in front of Farm One, hoping for some powerful mutant plants to grow.
for the space
If it worked, she could plant them around the farm to generate energy for the continuously.
Jasper had mentioned before that while the farm was running fine for now, its energy reserves were not exactly full.
On a sudden whim, Caroline buried a small bottle of mutant python venom and three of its scales in one corner of the farm, curious to see what kind of changes the upgrade might bring.
