Brittany brothers used to love her dearly, but now they stood there with bloodshot eyes. They stared at her like she was an enemy.

Brittany, don’t blame us for being cruel, one of them said. What just happened out thereI don’t believe you knew nothing about it! Where were you? We almost died from standing up for you!

Yeah! We were fighting for you outside, and you couldn’t even open the door for us!

This really breaks our hearts!

They complained for a while. Then they remembered that Caroline was still waiting outside to see what they would do. Their expression changed at once. Like bandits, they started tearing through Brittany’s room, grabbing anything they could find.

Brittany screamed. The young girl, Echo Barker, rushed forward. She grabbed her uncle’s arm with all her strength. She even bit him, refusing to let them take anything.

But the trio was desperate. In the apocalypse, their lives were hanging by a thread. One of them shoved Echo away without hesitation.

She fell hard to the floor. A large bump rose on her head, and she wailed in pain.

Echo cried and cursed at them, shouting insults until her voice cracked.

After taking what they could, the trio still left some supplies behind for Brittany and Echo.

But Echo’s curses made them tremble with anger.

Brittany collapsed onto the floor like her soul had left her body. She did not look at her brothers. She did not comfort her child.

Brittany,Dacre said through clenched teeth, listen to us. You and your daughter should keep your heads down from now on.

What should have been a kind warning was answered with loud insults from Echo.

The brothers shook their heads and sighed at the little girl. In the end, the three of them left.

When they checked at the supplies they had taken, their hearts went cold.

Before the apocalypse, their sister meant everything to them. They had always protected and cherished Brittany.

After the apocalypse, they still treated her well. Any good stuff they found, they saved for Brittany first.

After Alaric awakened his ability and became stronger than them, he would send them a few cans now and then.

But most of what the brothers had still went to Brittany.

Only Charlton had been married. His wife died after the apocalypse.

So the brothers poured all their care into Brittany.

Whenever they found rice or flour, they sent it to her, saying Echo should eat well.

Sometimes, Brittany came to them crying about how poor she was, saying her daughter wanted this snack or that food.

They never complained.

Later, when Brittany fought with neighbors, she called them to back her up.

The apocalypse had come. Survival rules were brutal. They showed up again and again.

But this time, they had nearly died. Brittany hadn’t stepped up for them. She never says anything.

The brat they had raised like their own had bitten them, hit them, and cursed them.

And Brittany wasn’t poor at all.

They found over 100 cans of food. There were bags of rice and flour. There were a few hundred packs of compressed biscuits.

There were rare treatscandies children liked, pretty little dresses, and other things. Her house was full of them.

Brittany had never said a single word about any of it.

The three men looked at each other. Disappointment filled their eyes.

They handed everything over to Caroline, their heads hanging low.

After his wife died, he treated Brittany and Echo as the reason he kept living. Now that reason was gone. What remained was bitterness.

Hatred toward Brittany for crushing his sincerity. Hatred toward Caroline, for tearing the truth

open.

Dacre and the youngest brother, Lester Glover, felt calmer. In the apocalypse, living was living. Seeing the truth clearly made things simpler.

Caroline checked the supplies they brought back.

They were still missing a lot.

She looked at them. When will you give me the rest?

The men were terrified of her.

Her words made their bodies tremble in fear.

Ggive us some time,Dacre pleaded, trembling.

Time? How much?Caroline asked coldly.

They whispered among themselves. At last, Lester spoke. Four months

Caroline laughed. Four months? Are you kidding me? This is the apocalypse. If you’re dead by then, who am I supposed to collect from?
